    CELTIC have reportedly knocked back a shock loan bid from Gillingham for Karamoko Dembele.

    Gills boss Steve Evans had hoped to land the 16-year-old wonderkid for the second-half of the season.


    But the Daily Record claims the Scottish champions would rather keep Dembele rather than send him for a temporary spell down south in League One.

    Hoops-daft Evans worked with Dembele’s brother Sirki at Peterborough and was optimistic that his connections might push the deal through.


    However, Celts are in no rush to send the youngster out on loan and believe his development would be better-served training with Neil Lennon’s side.

    Dembele – who turns 17 next month – has made two substitute appearances for the first-team this season, most recently in last week’s 3-0 win over Ross County.



    The highly-rated attacker hit the headlines in October 2016 when he made his debut for Celtic’s development team at the age of just 13.

    The teenager was then handed his senior debut against Hearts on trophy day last season and earned a place on the bench for the Scottish Cup Final.


    This season he became the youngest footballer to play for a Scottish club in Europe when he made a cameo appearance against Cluj in December.

    The England Under-17s starlet is under contract at Parkhead until summer 2021.

    The experience wouldn’t harm him but he’s that young he’s better being our complete responsibility until he’s matured a bit.

    Still too small to make an impact in the lower leagues down there imo. Keep him here, get him minutes and get him in the gym. Then we’ll talk about loans.

    He needs gametime, even if it's just ten minutes here and there.

    First-team football is all that we can offer him that the clubs that are interested in him can't.

    Fati is playing for Barcelona at the same age.

    Fati is 4 months older but Karamoko made his debut 3 months earlier than him. He’s also physically more prepared for game time.

    No issues with suggesting dipping him in and out for small periods but he definitely isn’t ready to be a first team option like Fati now is.
