Aye, when we went down to 10 they only had 1 more chance I think, near the very end when Morelos who was offside got in and missed another shot.

We managed to keep the ball a bit better and run the clock down well with Hayes, Forster etc going down. Huns seemed to lack any ideas to break us down, Morelos ballooning that shot 20 yards over the bar, cross after cross being punted out the other wing from Tavernier and Barisic.

Played them with our 2nd choice right-back, 3rd choice left-back, 4th choice at best striker, Elyounoussi and Edouard unfit - never kicked a ball all day and still beat them :celtman2:

    Reflecting back on the game...

    That first-half was torture.

They used the same tactic we did at Ibrox; launch the ball deep into our half from kick-off to gain territory. They pushed 4 players up in the first 20 seconds and forced a few corners in the first minute. Set the scene for the half.

They won headers from both corners which needs to be addressed. We were fortunate it was Goldson's 50p heed.

Rangers played with a high press, 6 or so players in our third while we only had Morgan up front. No idea why we sat so deep, but I remember at one point we were sitting just outside our own box from their goalkick! * push up to near the half-way line, they don't have us for pace. Inviting pressure on yourself.

When we did press higher, we actually forced them into a mistake and had an opportunity in their 3rd until Jack fouled Christie.

Elyanousi was pish, there was one point where we counter attacked and instead of playing it wide he cut inside into a midfield packed with 3/4 blue shirts and lost possession. Also playing difficult balls down channel to Morgan and not linking up with Hayes at all. Don't think he should have started.

Playing Morgan as a lone striker was obviously never going to work, we all knew that before kick-off. It reeked of Johnstone playing up front at Ibrox last year. Not blaming Morgan, it's not his position, but there was once the ball came into him and his touch basically laid it off for a Rangers player to attack. 2 minutes later it gets fired into him from Hayes (I Think) and his chest control gives it to a Rangers player. The worst part was when we had a counter-attack, 4 v 3 and instead of passing it to Forrest, he held onto it too long and Jack put in a challenge. Just out of his depth up there.

We resorted to playing long balls which huns easily headed clear. Something I noticed was when they headed it clear it was almost always falling to one of their players. When we headed anything clear it was also falling to their players - their midfield must be picking up better positions, something else to address I think.

Right before half-time, Kamara gets booked for holding back Frimpong. Perfect opportunity to swing it in and put pressure on them and we passed it backwards, put ourselves under pressure and hit it out of play for a throw-in in our own half.

Not only was Forster outstanding, thankfully Morelos was pish. He could have squared it to Kent at one point but had a shot saved. He could have played a through-ball to Kent but opted to go alone and shoot from distance too. How he never got booked in that game is beyond me. Persistent fouling and almost humping Frimpong in the corner at one point.

Anyway, 2nd half was an improvement and this post's long enough. Just don't want winning the cup to overshadow the glaring weaknesses in that performance.

Was like a repeat of the midweek Hamilton game, probably the 2 worst performances of the season along with the Livingston and Hibs games a couple of month ago.

Nothing happening up front, losing the ball easily in midfield and gifting chances. Least we won these two games.

Goes to show, without disrespecting the form Morgan showed over the Last few games, what a real striker like Eddie can do.

Getting the fk for the goal, and setting up Mikey for what should have been 2-0 because Eddie gets himself in those positions that allows the pass to be made and then opens up space for runs.

I think Eddy would have also played in one of the three at *that* breakaway where Jack got back.
