Only those who know nothing about Rugby Union had England as favourites.

England were always going to struggle with the SA pack, their starters are monsters, and then you have 6 more coming off the bench.
Throw in a ref who is known for awarding scrum penalties based on who is going forward, rather than actually looking at binding, hip alignment, leg position, height and angle of engagement etc etc, and a SA win was always likely.

Was England’s pack not vastly heavier than SA’s?

Missed the first half , but the second half was brilliant and it was great to see SA score 2 brilliant tries .
The scenes at the end were very emotional and hopefully this will be a massive boost to the country and its people .
England your arrogance let you down again .

Fair play to BBC radio at least they gave decent time on the game, those * on Talksport couldn't get onto the football quick enough, you'd think there wasn't a rugby final on. Mind you they were going on how easy it was going to be.

Don’t talk pish. England were the favourites. Deserved after who they beat and how they beat them.

No, England weren't the favourites. In fact going into the semi-finals, they had to be massive outsiders, given that the other 3 teams were the 2 time reigning World Champs (who had won over 90% of their games under their current coach), the reigning Rugby Championship holders, and the reigning 6 Nations winners (with a Grand Slam) .............. People get carried away with one good performance in the semi-final, and suddenly try to dismiss form over the last 2 or 3 years.

I know nothing about Rugby Union. I do know that literally every single odds compiler had England as strong favourites though. The best price you could have got on England was 1-2.

Bookies' odds aren't an accurate prediction of the result, they merely show where all the numpties are placing their money.

Absolute bollocks tbf Nick. That's a very 1970's view of bookies. If you genuinely think that is how betting works nowadays then I assume you are living on your own luxury Island.

I thought that was how they made their odds ...... I've only been into a bookies 3 or 4 times in my life, haven't placed a bet since 1995, so I'm not an expert

That's why I mentioned the 1970's Nick. Things have moved on. Bookies don't really exist anymore in the way they used to. They base their odds now or at least their opening odds on algorithms and then see where the money goes. Traditionally bookies would also build in a margin for themselves to make sure they win ie a 112% market so if the money is evenly spread they would make 12% profit. With the advent of exchanges thoughfolk can now bet on a 100% market so if bet home , away and draw you would not lose. So basically if a team is 1-2 on then if you look at every Rugby Union odds compiler as an aggregate thinks there is a 66.67% chance of England winning.
