Totally unrelated but your post, along with Marie, kinda reminded me of this:

I tortured my parents for this but they wouldn't get it for me....but my granny did. The game featured a four foot long mechanical track, a game betting board and 5 different coloured metal "horses". You turned a crank on the game board to move the horses down the track and over the line. I remember my blue horse came with a broken leg, snapped off just below the knee. It wasn't usable. Mammy sent it off to the makers explaining and asking for a replacement. A few weeks later, a package arrived from them. They returned the original blue horse with its other leg snapped off below the knee!!!

Remember we used to make an early version of a skateboard out of an adjustable roller skate and a book, usually an annual of some kind. (Christ I’m starting to feel really old)

We used to make catapults out of metal coat hangers. The Kellys were master craftsmen, their catties were the Rolls Royce of catapults. Ammo was the electrical wire you get inside plugs, leads etc. If you got hit on the leg you knew all about it! Metal builders' staples were taboo and resulted in instant exile!

I had plenty skint knees. Almost a new one every day! Now you see weans goin out wi helmets and pads on? FFS! If anything, not wearing helmets and stuff made you a better rider and more aware of risks.

Cribby is our Belfast translation mate. While on the subject me and the wife and son were watching the troubles Spotlight documentary in the last hour. My wife said "do you remember the Brit helicopters out all night?" I said to my son "it's what feckin put me to sleep at night." If you were lucky and they hovered low they'd even shine the big spotlight in your window. @smokie899 I'm sure your house as a kid was like mines. Get used to the cops raiding the house twice annually. Oh the craic.
