I've been inspired by Rendog's thread on foods that turn your stomach. Does anyone have any interesting phobias? I can't stand spiders, to the point I have constant nightmares about the * things. More unusually, I hate the thought of chewing on lollypop sticks. They remind of emery boards for filing nails and the idea of those things on teeth puts a shiver down my spine.

Have a fear of heights and a phobia about swimming where my feet cant touch the bottom (cos I cant tread water or swim well)

Whilst in Oz, I did a tandem skydive from 14,000ft and I got an Open Water Diving Licence.

You heard of the dream with your teeth, its a really vivid dream where you think you are awake and your teeth are breaking, ya snap awake and be checking your teeth for grinding, chipping etc??

Well apparently that dream is about you subconsciously telling yourself that you are running out of time to do something...

Maybe that drowning one is something onto that because you obviously dont have a fear of water or a problem in dealing with emergency situations...

when i stayed at my parents house i sleeped in the attic and it was full of giant spiders with 2 inch leg span...torture for an arachniphobic, i remember seeing 2 of them right beside each other on my wall one time. the attic was done up aswell. another time i was lying on my bed munching a donner kebab and a big spider ran past me on my bed right beside the kebab, i jumped up faster than iv ever moved and got out the vacinity.

i still have nightmares about the *.

I'm not fond of flying either, after a couple of bad experiences. I went to my doctor, got some valium and it worked a treat. First time I've taken it. Doesn't zone you out to much, you still have all your faculties about you, but nothing freaks you out. A drunk guy started on me in the passport check-in queue a couple of weeks ago (at 6 am!) and I just started laughing. Really, give it a bash.

im really badly arachnaphobic as well, to the point where i even tried hypnotherapy to help cure it.

its worked to an extent, i used to be so bad that i couldnt even look at a picture of a spider without bursting into tears, but now i can handle being in the same room as one without crying.

the first thing i do when i enter a room is scan the four corners to check for spiders.

it still controls my life so much that im considering going back for more hypnotherapy. theres so many things id never do because of spiders....such as lie about on the grass, go near trees etc.

and its something id hate to pass onto my children as its been crippling for me.

i also cant stand cotton wool. boak.

you sure wouldn't like my parents attic then, it would drive you to a nervous breakdown.

I know what you mean. We have a big, heavy front door and I came home stoned one night (about 1.00am), closed and locked the door and went to feed the cat in the utility room. Turned around to go back into the kitchen and there was a * monster spider there in the doorway (I live in the country and some of the spiders are so big, they should have saddles on). I stood for 15 mins, praying it would go, but it didn't, so I had to go out the back door, round the front and knock to get let back in. My mum got up, asked about the obvious red-eye (I was very caned), saw the spider and woke my dad. He got up, asked about the red-eye :)47:) and shouted at me for being a coward. Fair enough, but I wasn't going near that * thing.

I've woken up, plastered to my bedroom wall, because I've dreamt there was a spider in my bed, under the covers. I think it's the way they move.
