And what logic is that for saying we shouldn’t complain about it?

We've not had fixed term contracts for managers for a long time though. Rodgers Bucked (pun intended) that trend but that is increasingly looking like a pre meditated move to ensure the club was well compensated when he moved on.

All the more reason to love him. Might let us have Benkovic back, as well.

    True Celtic man.

    Fair enough, mate.

All I’m trying to do is say, let’s seek that clarity before effectively parting the board on the back.

Not trying to detract from support for Lenny; just keeping an eye that the board do the same and back him.

Did you moan when Martin got his 12 months rolling at the end of run.

Did you moan when Brendan got his.

Says it all that they have given him a 12 month rolling contract... and probably more that he accepted it

Wasn’t that at MONs request as his wife was ill and needed to stay on under more flexible terms?!

NEIL Lennon has described his appointment as Celtic manager on a permanent basis as a great personal and professional privilege and he set out his plans to bring more success to the club.

Celtic Chief Executive, Peter Lawwell, joined Neil Lennon at a press conference today (Friday) for the official announcement. The Hoops boss agreed a 12-month rolling contract with Celtic six days on from leading the eight-in-a-row champions to Scottish Cup glory and a historic Treble Treble.

Speaking to the media at Celtic Park, Neil Lennon gave his thoughts on taking up the role and discussed how much the job meant to him.

“It’s a great privilege, a great personal and professional privilege,” said the manager. “I’m absolutely thrilled and very much looking forward to the challenges that lies ahead. You all know what this club means to me but it’s not about me. It’s about the club and progressing in the right way.

“I’m delighted that the board have entrusted me with the job. I have a great relationship with them. They are elite people and when you get chosen to take on a role like this from those kind of people, there was only going to be one answer and that was yes.

“My whole focus was on winning the league and the cup. If I got the job, great and if I didn’t, then it was a brilliant experience. It was a challenge. I was filling big shoes. Brendan had won seven trophies out of seven. He had such an influence, not just on the players, but on the staff and structure he set up. It was a lot of pressure but it was a great challenge which I enjoyed it immensely.

“The players have done everything that’s been asked over the last few years. It’s about keeping that form, consistency, character and personality in the team.”

Having just won eight-in-a-row, Neil Lennon’s side will soon set out on their quest to make more history as they aim to replicate the historic nine-in-a-row which Jock Stein’s side achieved between the 1965 and '74. The Celtic manager explained his ambition for the club as he set out his targets for the upcoming season.

“Trying to win a fourth treble is a big challenge we face,” he said. “Trying to remain the dominant team in the country, and progress our own players through the ranks is also our aim.

“Nine-in-a-row is important for the club so that means it’s important for me, the supporters and the players. I’m going to try and bring nine, first and foremost, aligned with the domestic cups. Obviously we want to make inroads into the Champions League which is a difficult thing to do but not unsurmountable.”

12 month rolling contracts are ideal. Means you’re not shelling out on compensation if it goes * up.

12 month rolling contract is not the issue here, better managers than NL have been handed one at Celtic. I'm more concerned about the fact it appears than NL has been forced to continue with Kennedy and Duff as his backroom staff.

To me this is about control, PL having control to be more precise. If NL can't even pick his own staff then what chance does he have standing up to the board on more important matters?

Unsure if it’s been said already but having John Kennedy as assistant points to him getting the gig after the 10.

I'm not getting too fixated on the 12 month rolling contract. I've never been a fan of that anyways as I'd like our manager nailed down for 2/3/4 years, whatever, just to give the impression of stability. But it's how we so business so it is what it is.

My concern about Lennon was never the man (legend) or his ability. It's how the board may use any feeling of gratefulness he has to them for appointing him to force him to accept backroom staff he may not want, release players he wants to keep, basically to dance to their tune financially.
Neil is a strong personality, I hope he is putting it up to the money men and fighting for financial and recruitment backing. The fans aren't stupid, its obvious the squad needs some work not just a little tweak here and there, not many of us buy into lawwells assertion of such, Neil mustn't either.

Now its announced I just want this season to get up and running.

I was getting used to the idea of Lenny, but I was hoping he was going to have some sound tactical experience brought in beside him. Then I see he is getting Kennedy and Duff. Does Kennedy have pictures of Lawwell humping his dog or something?

I was more upset about losing Davies than I was Rodgers, as I think he did most of the tactical ground work with Rodgers making the final decisions and man management. I was hoping we were going to bring someone in of a similar mould as assistant. But no, why add more wages when you can just keep guys that are there, whether they are up to the job or not. It does not bode well for upcoming player recruitment.
