No we aren’t you misquoted him for your own reasons.

He admits the team needs funds invested but felt the media where over reacting.

You are claiming he said we don’t need major investment he didn’t say that!

Thing is nearly every window we have zero net spend so break even will be a bonus

This summer window will probably be just as bad as the last.

I don't doubt that a significant reason Lennon was given the job on a full-time basis was because Lawwell regards him as someone with an eye for a player.

He'll be expecting Lennon to pluck out a few Van Dijks and Wanyamas for the traditional opening bid of 500k, rising to the dizzying heights of 1.5m if needs be.

So I'll go for option 3.5 - a total spend of about 4.5m.

    You know the rest.

"We tried our best", "we didn't need a re-build anyway", "we're happy with the squad we've got", "this is a treble treble winning team."

I reckon we will spend £10m to £15m this summer but Ntcham and 1 other will go to cover all that or most of it imo

Every time I think we will spend I go back to WGS last window and Pedro handing them the league and they ended up doing three in a row, which in turn kept them going before they died.

If he is not careful he will drop the ball again and let them back in, that nest egg that’s burning a hole in the bank accounts will vanish quick enough and we will be back to square one.

I think we’ll get a RB, a CB and hopefully the boy Harper before the qualifiers.

No fussed how much they cost.

I’m expecting us to spend what we usually do £10m-£12m.

PL has already blown his wee corporate tiny tory boy balls on bayo and shved.

Expect 3-4 loans and nothing more.

All delivered with the usual "difficult market/ wage structure/ couldnt get it over the line/ assess further down the line/ option to buy/ league limitations" pap that will get rolled out along with assurances that OUR money goes back into the team... meanwhile our board will announce a 10m partnership deal with some offshore casino to install Lisbon Lions themed slots to "bring the celtic brand to a new customer base and widen our already stunning portfolio" and blah blah blah.

Ive completely resigned myself to the outcome that this window will end as 95% of them usually do... with a ruptured * for us and a healthy bonus for Pete.

I think we'll spend around 6-10 million and sell Ntcham for 8-12. Could see us loaning in one or two players. Would be stunned if we spent more money than the money we will get from selling players.

Why were we spending more on players in 2002/2003 period than we are now? That is in spite of record revenues and much higher income from CL and player sales.

Can anyone shed any light on this or any justification?

In 2002 we didn’t actually buy that many players

    Hedman
    Laursen
    Fernandez

Am sure where the only purchases that summer.

The debt levels back then would be unmanageable now plus the huns where using EbT

I think we will spend about £10m (the majority of which on a new RB hopefully).

Predict the return of Roberts for about £4m and Benkovic back on loan. Rogic going out the door for about £7m. Think we need another back-up centre half, RB and back up left back on top of what I mention above. Don’t think we need anything else as Griff will be like a new signing, Shved will challenge for a place straight away and Henderson, Johnston and Dembele will come to the fore ☘️

In the summer of 2000 when O’Neill came in we spent big as the team he inherited was pish and he’d obviously been given promises of funds to come up the road. In the 5 years after that until he left we spent 10 million, 6 of which on Hartson.

The outlays in any 1 window have been nothing in comparison since, French Eddy by far the biggest outlay. After that it’s Broony and Ntcham at just over 4 each.

I’m probably a bit out on the years, but I’m talking about spending £4m/5m/6m between 2000-2003-ish on the likes of Hartson, Lennon, Sutton, Schedit, Berkovic etc.

It feels like we are quite a bit away from any serious level of debt judging from the annual reports.

More of an economist than a finance guy myself, so my understanding of the situation - such as general rules of inflation and proportion of fixed costs/variable costs to revenues etc. - seems to fall down when it comes to Celtic unlike many other clubs.
