It's pretty much tradition that we play an Irish side every year (I think? We played Galway last year). In fact someone told me that we have to if we want to keep flying the tricolour above Parkhead...

during the 70's the SFA ordered celtic to remove the flag, bizzarely rangers stepped in jock wallace and company got involved on celtics side and the SFA finally relented ( i think ) haha

 

I might go too if it happens. The Oval isn't too far away from me. Any pre-season friendlies I've seen before haven't exactly been exciting, but hey, it's Celtic playing, who cares lol

There was a glens fan on radio ulster today shouting about Celtic should never play at the Oval.

 

I thought the speakers on the radio gave the game a big 'thumbs up' and the Glens fans were welcoming Celtic back to the Oval after an absence of 45 years!! (1963). As usual there are those that pour cold water and it is brilliant that Celtic are coming to Belfast to give something back to their loyal fans. Well done everyone involved in getting this on......wouldn't miss it for anything!

We're also meant to be playing Derry City as part of the deal for McCourt

 

well i went to celtic XI playing galway united last summer and they sent over a pretty crappy squad, the only known players would be sno, o'dea and virgo but that in mind they played sligo rovers a week before a squad that had pressley, graveson, balde and caldwell

 

i remember a good few years ago watching Celtic v cliftonville who had and still have the support of the catholic people in belfast. there was riots when the ruc waded into us and the game was stopped early. this time its glentoran in protestant east belfast. can see it happening again.

 

was that in the 70's?

 

I dont see this being a good idea having this many celtic fans in east belfast.
