I meant more generally in terms of the teams being linked to Mourinho.

I don't think any of the clubs in the top 5 leagues start in July competitively, though probably friendlies.

Sorry mate, but this is nonsense. Any manager would be crucified after recent performances. It's been dire.

Yet before that with MONs and WGS teams we couldn't even get a draw against Rosenberg and Copenhagen. Getting anything from an away CL group game was always going to be a big result for us. During this time time I would have been more confident in us getting a result at home to Barca or Juventus than away to Malmo or Rosenberg at group stage level.

    Crucified? We've lost one game.

I know it's not been so great but Lennon came into a pretty dire situation let's not forget. The rat jumped ship and took a good chunk of the coaching staff with him. As a supporter it felt like a bit of a betrayal from a man who claimed he was Celtic through & through, so it might have felt a bit like that to the players as well.

Lennon came in to pick up the pieces, patched us together and got us over the line. It's not always been pretty but there are extenuating circumstances (excuses?). Regardless of what happens in the Cup final, Lennon has fulfilled his main objective. If he seals a treble for us he could (and should) walk away with his head held high.

We are in a position fairly similar to the post-Deila era now. We've won a title in second gear, but Rangers have bloodied our nose and now everyone is expecting a real fight next year. Last time, we pushed the boat out for Rodgers and it really united the support ahead of a potentially difficult season. I think we need to do the same now. As well as Lennon has done for us, we need a fresh start and something to get everyone on the same page again.

It's important to remember that this is still the best group of players in Scotland, we just need a bit of freshening up after things went a bit stale. If we can play poorly for large chunks of the season, suffer so many injuries, get things wrong in the transfer windows, have a manager walk out with us still chasing a title and STILL come out with a treble - we'll be fine next year.

MON got a draw in the Nou Camp.

But we shouldn't be turning our noses up at that victory in Moscow, or even the victory at Anderlect.

I don't think that was in the CL group stages. He also won away at Ajax to reach the group stage

It was CL mate. We drew 0-0 in the Uefa Cup at the Nou Camp in March 2004, and drew 1-1 in the CL group stages at the Nou Camp in November 04.

    Here's the match report: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/europe/4034119.stm

    Some team too

Barcelona: Valdes, Belletti, Puyol, Oleguer, Sylvinho (Van Bronckhorst 45), Xavi, Marquez, Deco, Giuly (Iniesta 60), Eto'o, Ronaldinho.

Subs Not Used: Ruben Martinez, Gerard, Fernando, Messi, Rodri.

We've lost one game but performed poorly in the vast majority. I am grateful to him for coming in during a difficult time and securing the league. But he isn't the man for the job next season. Ideally he'll go out on a high having won a treble and that'll be that.

Agree with most of your post. It's a crucial summer for us. Things have indeed gone stale and it would seem that the board have become somewhat complacent in the last couple of seasons. We need to flex our muscles a bit this summer and invest wisely, in both management and playing staff.

I don't think there is any gettin away from it, we will have to spend a fair bit of money this summer if we want to secure 9IAR and beyond.

Squad players and prospects will not cut the mustard, and as difficult as it may be, we will have to try and get rid of as much deadwood as possible.

It's not just the manager we have to replace its also his backroom team granted Lennon has had to work with Kennedy and Duff but they wouldn't be his choice it's what the club have him as his team. Hopefully the new manager whoever he is has a great fitness coach because some of our guys look as if they are playing with lead boots on at the moment. Granted the manager leaving when he did upset the rythm of the team but they really should have been showing a better level of commitment and professionalism than they have done in games since then

Who ever it is, they will be up against it to make sure the squad is fit and ready to go for the qualifiers, nevermind trying to get new guys blooded into the squad.

This coming season is THE season and fans will go batshit at the board and DD will see money flood away if they don't get things right, whoever the * gets the job as long as they are given the ability to get out there and bring players in positions we need they will get the support of the fans in no time.

Board are walking a tightrope and if money is all they see, they shouldn't forget how things looked under Deila compared to Rodgers.

Lennon's proponents list a whole range of mitigating circumstances for his failings. Why is it inappropriate to contextualise his achievements?

    Take this, for instance:

That information is pertinent because the Scottish Premiership is more competitive now than it was then: Lennon's managerial credentials would face a sterner test this time around if he were to be appointed on a permanent basis.

During his first spell in charge, Lennon faced one sustained title challenge, from Smith, and he ultimately lost the league from a winning position.

One might reasonably, then, have misgivings about Lennon's ability to manage Celtic in a more competitive environment, over a prolonged period of time, no?

The criticism of his first tenure has generally been more sophisticated than: "But Ranjurs wurnae in the league, so it disnae count."
