I've read peoples views/opinions that we as a club have moved on but Lenny hasn't, anyone agree with that ?

I posted the difference in funds ages ago based on the transfer values on that site transfermarkt. Rodgers has spent about 170% of Lennon’s total spend, before taking into account wages.

That’s quite a jump. Again, it shouldn’t be used as a stick to beat Rodgers with, but neither should we be looking at degrading what Lennon accomplished here, because it was very impressive. It says a lot that we still use a number of his signings to this day.

And I would echo the sentiment that if we can get somebody who is better than Lennon we should. Benitez obviously ticks that box.

Under Rodgers we have tried to become a EPL standard club with all the upgrades to Lennonxtown, Celtic Park, sports science, training techniques etc.

Lennon however is a bit more old school.

Rodgers qualified for the CL 2/3 progressing in one to the EL. Then made it through the EL at a decent Germans teams expense..

We were more than poor in some games but his record really isn’t that bad, would bite your hand for the new manager to bring 2/3 CL Qualifications.

The highest wage bill under Lennon's tenure was £20 million less than our current wage bill racked up by Rodgers. The huge spike in Champions League revenue in the last 2 seasons has meant it's still around about the same as a % of turnover.

Without doubt our best European run since Seville.

I would say Celtic should be competing against the likes of Benfica and Spartak if we draw them in the CL any year though, so wouldn’t class them 2 as punching above our weight.

The 2 Barca games were definitely punching above our weight, by some distance.

I just don’t think Lennon had us punching above our weight any more than he had us punching below our weight, similar to how I feel about Rodgers tenure.

I get what you're saying, we should definitely be competing with teams of that stature but it's overlooked how good that Benfica side were that we pipped to 2nd spot. They made the next 2 Europa League finals.

It's that sort of 2nd tier European club that we just didn't regularly compete against under the rat. Gladbach gave us a lesson at Parkhead, Zenit wiped the floor with us after their rusty 1st leg display, Valencia comfortably beat us.

I'm not in any way suggesting Lennon was faultless, he certainly had his European shitshows as well but given the circumstances he took us over in and the transfer funds & wages he was provided, he certainly had us more competitive in Europe.

Assuming no decision will be made before the cup final, we've got at least another week of this. :67: :55:

There has been more noise but to be honest it has been bubbling for weeks. A defeat like that was always going to be the final straw for some people.

I was bought over by his first 2 games in charge but ibwas still reeling from Rodgers leaving at that point.

It's not surprising to see why people don't want him as manager.

I agree with your second paragraph. If not the full confidence in him securing 10.

That figure is surprising to me. Obviously there is the Edouard fee but still. However, It's not really surprising in the sense that we knew we were going to have to fork out for someone like Rodgers and we enjoyed it while it lasted.

Lennon came to the job as a complete rookie with no experience whatsoever. Rodgers came as one ofnthe best coaches in the UK and off the back of 3 years as Liverpool manager.

So, as you say there, it shouldn't be used as a stick to beat him with and wax lyrical about Lennon with in the same instance. Two very different eras which I think some people are trying too hard to compare in order to score points for their respective corner.

I don't think people are intentionally degrading what he done. Most arguments I'm seeing are that people feel it shouldn't still be used as a reason or argument for him getting the job this time around. Which is entirely fair.

Football has changed quite a bit even since 2012 and that is in regards to a lot of aspects, including the amount of expenditure we need to shell out I would guess too, going back to the money point. I don't think Lennon is capable of moving with it.

I just don't see us moving forward under him this time. Simple as that really.

I see your point about if we get someone better like Benitez. Surely there are other options in between? That's quite a jump from Lennon to someone with Benitez' name. I find it hard to believe there is no middle ground.

    • "Popcorn teeth"
    • Diminishing his achievements in his first spell
    • Baseless rumours that he has issues getting on with players, despite former players being on record to the contrary
That's just a selection from on here. Plenty more being posted on Twitter and being said in the stands as well.

"Clueless *" and "* sack him the now" were 2 I overheard at the Livingston game.
