for some reason i feel with this signing the exact same way i felt with mcdonald.

others dismissed it as stupid and i have this overwhelming desire to see him succeed and know he will.... hopefully its not a coincidence.

It has a real sense of Roy of The Rovers about it, rags to riches folklore stuff.

Either way the guy will go down as a legend for the right or wrong reasons!

Reputation I guess. The huns and the rest of Europe are not exactly shitin themselves over this signin.

Like I said though, hope he does well, would still like to see 1 big name this season, we've gone long enough without one and are finally in a financial situation to buy a big name. I'd love to sign Riquelme and think it's realistic, as long as he didn't demand silly wages. Although as I type this it also makes me think Naka could be just as effective in AM position. Maybe this guy is here to let Naka move inside?

Poor auld Paddy, he's been built up to the heavens and shot down all in the same thread and before he could kick a ball in anger.

I trust Strachan.. to an extent. He's certainly signed some howlers and also some gems, so it'* or miss. He certainly wants to play for the shirt and we lack those players at the club just now, so that can only be a good thing.

I doubt he'll be browsing talkceltic and if he is, don't take it personally mate ;)

McCourt will not affect any big name targets.

Riquelme isnt a realistic target. He moved back to Argentina for family reasons, he aint coming back to Europe, especially to play in cold Scotland

Never knew that was why he went back. Oh well. Always thought he was a fantastic player, was sad to see him move to Boca as it's harder to see his games.

Reputation means quite a bit, look at our very own Holy Goalie, he has a fantastic reputation and has kept us in many a game.

I think you're lacking some serious perspective here.
We signed the man for 200,000 pounds mate. Graveson will makes more on the salaries in 2 months than he will.
I don't think the club has brought him in with any specific role in mind -- just recognizing his potential, the low risk, and going for him because it's the smart thing to do.

Signing this man has no effect on going after anyone else, nor an immediate impact on Strachans' first choice.

Good luck to Paddy! You've earned your shot, and I wish you the best. And I look forward to hopefully seeing you and Koki breaking into the 1st team. :celt_2:

    I'm pleased with this signing.

He is a bargain at 200K.If he were playing in the Championship he would have cost about 4 times more. The Eircom League is improving all the time and he has been one of the best players in it in the last year or two.Trust me if you're one of the best players in the Eircom league then you're well able for the SPL.

He isn't perfect but as Dempsey stated earlier none of his problems are chronic. He is injury-prone but this should get better with the better physio's and physical preparation at Celtic.
He is a bit lazy at Derry but that's probably down to being a big fish in a small pond.I think he'll work hard at Celtic. If he irons out these imperfections then we've got a player who is worth at leat 5 times what we've paid for him.

He is pretty quick,I'd say about as fast as McDonald. However he has the ability to just ghost past players with skill. He's got two good feet and a good shot and an eye for a pass. Can play on either wing comfotably as well.
He'll be so hungry to prove himself and that counts for a lot, just take a look at Robson. He isn't better than McGeady or Naka but he will be a really good option on the bench.Cover on the wings is something which we really lacked last year and this problem looks to have been solved with the signings of Mizuno and McCourt.

Pat is well worth a punt and I think he will surprise a few people.:50:

I think he is gonna be really good for him and i dont see why people are thinking he will do noting for us.

Wanting us to sign "big" names, yeah. Lets just get someone like Gravenson again or JJ or maybe Dontai. All are best signings have come from gems with gordan, and i believe Paddy will be another great GS signing

Personally I am fine with this move. The Eircom league has improved considerably and the top teams are now a match for the teams at the bottom end of the spl so I would think McCourt if he does well could become a useful squad player for us domestically.
At about 300,000 euros it is hardly a high risk signing.

I like all the people criticizing like they were expecting a superstar for a couple hundred thou ?? The question, at that price, you should be asking isn't Why... but WHY NOT.

It's not like Celtic is limited to signing 3 players every transfer window.

Let's just hope he doesn't read things like TalkCeltic, or his confidence will be shot before he pulls on the Hoops. I'd rather we started the transfer window in this way, instead of going for a big marquee signing early on. Mowbray has a good eye for a great player not fulfilling his potential. He seemed really keen on him and there's some sour grapes on his side after losing out to us. Nobody gets * off after missing out on a dud. McCourt's a Celtic supporter and I think he'll raise his game to play for us. With all due respect to th Eirecom league, if he's the best player there, he's not going to be playing flat-out. This will give him the chance to stretch his legs and prove he's good enough to play for us.

Does Pat McCourt play on the left or the right??? I read somewhere that he came to Celtic instead of West Brom because he had a better opportunity to play first team football - and of course because he was a tim. Where exactly will he fit in? Does this mean Strachan is planning for life after McGeady??? I thought that Mizuno was brought in to play on the right when Naka leaves so will he just be a back up player??

    Your thoughts please!
