We need more players for the SPL, we hardly found it easy last year and it will be tougher this year so we need a strong squad to bring people in when others get injured and are out of form, plus WGS has shown in the past that he can bring players to the next level so I'm happy for him to bring guy in on the cheap and add value to the price tag.

Every season we pick up a handful of players for buttons and even less players for big money. Thats just how it works. It could well turn out that the cheaper players end up outshining the megabucks players. Cough Robson Cough Brown.

As has already been mentioned the Scouts know a lot more than you do so give the guy a chance already.

How many of us knew Henke before he joined?

I will wait and see before commenting on his ability

So if he was from Barcelona he would deserve a chance?

It dosen't matter what club he is from, IF he is good enough he deserves a chance

Obviously I have never seen him but at that price there's no risk. let's buy him and see if he's any good, if not, nobody cares.

I like his hair cut by the way and another irishman is a good thing for celtic too.

McCourt is a lovely wee player, two footed, good passer, vison.Far better player than just about anyone else in the Eircom league, and a lot better than Jim O'Brien too.Well worth the risk at that price if only to give Aiden a rest.Jesus if Ivan Sproule can look halfway decent in the SPL than McCourt will too..Doyle and Hunt at Reading came from there and ye would not get much change from £10 mill for the pair of them..
He can fair sing a song too

You knew of Henke before WC 94 and rated him what was it then his huge goal scoring ratio.

Look come on the fact of the matter is this guy is probably gonna be our first signing of the summer. Half the guys on this thread also wrote on another thread wondering why we had not signed anyone.

Give the lad a chance. If our reserve players in waiting our so good they will step up or step out with extra competition thats up to them

If he is anything like Ivan Sproule, I'd be happy to have him in the squad...

I have it tattooed to my hand, waiting for the last 14 years for this question! I did know of him and rate him and he was rated by many people and pundits aswell. Who gives a * what you think.

Henke was an attacking centre mid at the 94 World Cup, why split hairs anyway the guy was using him as an example of a player that wasn't a world beater prior to joining Celtic.

No matter how the Scottish biased media want to spin it Henke had a decent profile before he came to Celtic. I too new of him pre Celtic and was very excited at the prospect of him coming.

This boy Pat McCourt may very well be a late bloomer and for a nominal fee we would not be taking too much of a chance.

Hammer seems to have a problem with people bringing up his wiki to get info on him.

Most have not heard of this guy before and wiki is the only real source we have to profile the guy.

McCourt is an attacking player but has a poor scoring record, he also has a history of roaming around many clubs who have not rated him enough to sign him permanently.

All this may mean nothing but it does not exactly give him a glowing reference.

As fans we are looking for an exciting signing this guy does not fit that bill.

Here is hoping we sign some top talent to get us all excited along with speculative punts like McCourt.

Yes i do have a problem with folk using wiki and taking it as gospel, i have the ability to change the article on him as much as any crook, thief, vagabond or undercover hun has.

If you want to profile the guy go on to Derry's website or ask the opinion of folk that have seen him play football on here.

To use an open source encyclopedia as a means to judge a footballers talent is laughable, there is no other word for it.

Those that are upset and mad at signing someone for potential... what are you thinking. I cant even understand your logic.. your acting like little kids who opened up a small present on christmas and get mad and upset even though there are more presents.
Honesty, sure its not an impact player but its tons of potential for little money and a chance of a high return. In other words a perfect investment.

People say that he doesnt try all the time and thats the only thing holding him back from being a star... i think playing for a beloved club with our coaching talent and neil lennon can and will rectify that.

I think a few people forget that Henke was going to cost us £3M, but Jock Brown found a loophole in his contract that allowed him to be released for the £650,000 we paid, so it's fair to say he had a decent profile before he joined us. I also remember him from USA '94. Sweden took a brilliant freekick that I think he was a part of.

Yes we should not sign potential players for little money.:rolleyes:

I forgot we can afford to drop 10 million on prospects like arsenal and manure.
