Such is my concern. I was meaning he hasn't had the chance to get his own players in to make his style work. Or attempt to at least.

The only way to strive to compete with the likes of Ajax is to try and play an attacking style of football. We were on the right track with Rodgers. * this idea that we can get back to the CL last 16 (and beyond?) abandoning that style. I don't buy it.

Ah, get what you mean. Cocu’s profile is far above Wagner’s for me though.

Will be interesting to see how he gets on at Schalke though.

As has been said earlier in the thread, if he was still at Hibs, would we have approached them at the end of the season for his services?

Just look at how Hibs' form has picked up since Lennon left Easter Road.

Lennon is definitely preferable to someone like Owen Coyle or Michael O'Neill but that's a shockingly low bar in any case.

Worryingly, I think he's going to get it and in my view that is going to put 10-in-a-row in serious jeopardy.

Lennon ahead of someone like Cocu. Mental.

We’ve already seen how badly the team has regressed under him. I can only see it getting worse with him in charge of a preseason.

He keeps saying he’s not changing anything but everyone can see he has apart from the people who want him as manager. His idea of breaking down teams who defend is getting the ball wide and just flinging the ball in the box.

And if the rumours are true about the differences at training/Lennoxtown then I can only see it being a disaster long term.

We simply have to go and get someone who’ll have us playing a modern style and use every available asset to try and get us to that next level.

    Agreed.

It would 100% just be the cheap option. Zero ambition or desire for progress.

This. It’s absolutely no coincidence that every team similar to us that outperform us do it by playing a progressive style of play and taking the game to the opposition.

Definitely the "cheap" option, but if he is appointed after his current contract runs out, how well he is backed will determine whether or not there is "zero ambition or desire for progress" imo.

If it simply comes back to - right, need to go and scout solely for "untapped gems" and "raw projects" then I'm done.

I know you’re being sarcastic here but we’ve never been at Ajax’s level, even back when we were at our best.

4 times Champions League winners. We’ve matched them at times but back in the day they were more comparable to a Bayern than us.

The training has changed and there’s no intensity to it.
He’s not using all the training data/sport science/analysis stuff. Something which The Snake would use a few times a day to monitor different aspects of training.

He was an absolute rat but there’s no doubt that Rodgers with Davies/Driscoll/Nayler took us to another level. They were always first into Lennoxtown in the morning and last out at night and covered every detail in trying to get the players to be the best they possibly could be and we’re monitoring everything to make them into ‘24 hour athletes’.

The fact that Lennon sounded almost overwhelmed by the changes made to Lennoxtown by Rodgers, and the Hibs players raving about the training and attention to detail from Heckingbottom is seriously worrying long term.

    Extremely sarcastic bud.

WE humped them when we had genuine top players in the Martin O'Neill era, but * me they are giants of fitba, even if not so much in today's game, but they're getting back.

It's testament that we've tried to model ourselves on the Ajax model over the years, Tommy Burns doing so in the 90's and 00's.

Lennon leading this group of players into a brand new 38 game season gives me the fear.
I'm thankful there isnt 8 extra games left to play this season , we look like we are in freefall , and aside from three last minute winners he could have genuinely * the title up :56:

    Where is that coming from?

I've seen and heard a few snippets about the Hibs mob stating stuff about training but haven't paid too much attention to it, but if that's true then that is a bit of a worry, especially so considering that Lennon said he would be leaning heavily on John Kennedy and JK spent all that time working under Rodgers and with the likes of Nayler and Driscoll.

    Ajax, Salzburg, Frankfurt, Slavia Prague.

All teams with similar budgets to us but all play better football than us and all have done better than us in Europe while doing it.

No doubt be told it’s unrealistic but other teams seem to be able do it.

And Christie is a huge miss as well, it’s no surprise that our best football we played all season was when we had a midfield of McGregor, Christie and Rogic. We were playing high tempo attacking football, not slow side to side football.

You actually think there’s any chance Lennon ever drops Brown :giggle1:?
