Why? It makes perfect sense. Mix experience with younger players. No one is saying spend the exact same amount as Ajax, but follow the model on our own scale. Piddling about in the £1-2 million bargain bucket only bloats the squad with mediocre players. Better two quality players on high wages than ten crap players on medium wages.

Slim the squad down, invest in a couple of quality experienced players and mix it with our home grown players and young foreign talent-either bought cheaply or brought on loan.

Instead, we played it cheap in the summer transfer window, lost out on tens of millions from the CL, sold our best striker and didn't replace him and now we're hoarding £40 million in the bank rather than investing it in the team.

Is this not what we are already doing then when we spend what we have on Ntcham, Eddie, Sinclair, Bayo, Eboue we scaling it to our abilities?

Roberts could have been a big spend if it weren't for Pep vetoing it allegedly.

Without looking at figures, I would steer clear of looking at a single season in isolation and saying we could replicate Ajax’s spending. Most spending models will be based on 5 years of revenue, aimed at smoothing things out, rather than just looking at the previous year.

That said, we do need to speculate to grow. The lack of transfer planning this summer was really poor to see, but I can’t help but think that falls on Rodgers/Congerton’s shoulders moreso than Lawell’s.

I actually think last summer was the worst transfer window in recent memory, from missing out in McGinn, the not selling Boyata (utter * madness), to losing Dembélé and having nothing else lined up.

None of those players fit the model of spending more on experienced players. Sinclair is the only experienced player and he cost less than £3 million.

So how much should we be spending? We hover around £10 million most seasons.

So you mean the policy we are following just now? And Rodgers overseen most of these signings. But remember quality over quantity.

Who were the higher transfer-fee experienced players we bought in the summer?

Did you miss the money spent on the striker not replacing Dembele? I actually agree that he wasn’t a straight replacement. But let’s not act as if Rodgers wasn’t backed, our wage bill is a riot and this was allowed under the snakes watch. And who’s moving the goal posts now over the experienced part. Not all Ajax’s signings have been of Tadic or Blind’s ilk.

Why are you moving the goalposts again? Eddie isn't an experienced player. Who are the high transfer-fee experienced players you're claiming we've signed recently?

And the wage bill comes from following Lawwell's policy of shopping in the £1-2 million bargain bucket. You end up with a bloated squad of mediocre players you can't shift. It's Lawwell's job to sell players as well as buy them. He only seems to be able to shift our best players -and he can't wait to do it.

We need to drastically trim the squad and start investing in some quality players with some big game experience so we don't panic at the first sign of adversity-as this team has a tendency of doing.

When did I claim anything? Could you quote that post, what I’ve posted are facts on why we couldn’t do what Ajax have done the last few years. And again who exactly added to that ‘squad’ with quality over quantity? You seem to think because we have money in the bank that we should be spunking it all. What happens when the money is done and we don’t make the Champions League?

"experienced" players who are first team worthy aren't coming to us.

Rarely will we get a Sinclair, he came for Rodgers not for Celtic.

If our manager at the time was Lennon or Deila, Sinclair wouldn't even glance or way.

The "experienced" players we will be able to attract will be utter has beens like ljungberg, Cole and others.

We don't need that type of player round here. We also aren't going to go out and spend £5-6million on a 27+ year old experienced player who is going to command a wage north of £50k a week.
