AVB ruled out now too. Martinez and AVB 2 big hitters not interested. Benitez is never happening people need to realise that, Marco Rose going to the Bundesliga. So the next manager is going to be a tough process. I have heard talk here in Ireland that Michael O'Neil was sounded out but he isn't interested either. So it will come down to Lennon or Moyes or someone of that ilk. If it was between Lennon and Moyes I would go for Moyes.

Well I do. His away form this season has been horrendous and I would most certainly not have seen Hibs away as a gimme

Of Course the budget is there for a top man, the question is will the board free it up to secure him ?

I think Sunday against the sheep is our most important game of the season, if Lenny can get through that then for me he's still in the runnin, if not then he won't even be part of the coversation.

He already inherits a good team, adds 3/4 pieces in the summer and he has no excuses not to have domestic success. Rodgers had instant success, why shouldn’t we expect that from anyone else?

Of course it’s not a gimmie. No cup game should be. I still don’t doubt he gets through it.

So Martinez’s agent has said he isn’t interested, thank * for that!

I wouldn’t put too much stock into agent comments, Lenny has a job to do and the club may have asked for him to be given a bit of space.

I fully expect Neil to do just that if given the chance.

It has to be said Rogers had no real domestic opposition.

Yeh he will do that, and he will be judged from then. Not 2/3 years from now.

Rodgers has no domestic opposition during his time here? So his success doesn’t count to you?

And how much of that squad would have been gone if he hypothetically was given the job.

We may not like him or other players much anymore but as a squad they are still key people to it and will mean a drop in the quality available with no guarantee we'd be able to replace them given our boards history on properly reinvesting money back onto the pitch.

    Could be gone next season:
    Boyata.
    Compper.
    Benkovic.
    Izzy.
    Toljan.
    Gamboa.
    Ntcham.
    Weah.
    Burke.

Could potentially be subject to offers the board will cream over*:
    KT
    McGregor
    Forrest
    Bitton

Papped out on loan or just released depending on contract status:
    Ralston.
    Miller.
    Bayo.
    Mulumbu.
    Allan.
    De Vries

*Doesn't mean they will leave obvs.

I am sure it's controversial to say but that is a massive hit on this team, something any new manager is going to struggle to fix with no assurance they would be given the funds to finance a new team.

The wrong appointment for next season when we are facing that could see us stop ourselves from getting to the 10.

It's disingenuous to say our new manager inherits a good squad when so many could be subject to leaving.

Next season is critical, more so than probably any other before it. We obviously need to win the league that is without question but I can see Europe being a complete write off next season and I don't see who we got that can be sold to replace the funds we would receive for qualifying in either Euro tournie.

I don’t like what BR did but he was offered a job by an EPL club who could probably double his salary and were willing to pay about 7 million for him and his coaches. That’s never going to happen with Lennon so you’re right to say that he won’t walk out on us.
If we get a coach who stays for 2/3 years and and is as successful as BR then it’s inevitable that EPL clubs will take an interest. Frankly it was fortunate for Lennon that BR left when he did - He was out of work and I certainly don’t think we would have approached Hibs and paid compensation for he was still there. I’d rather have 2 - 3 years of success under a coach who ends up attracting attention than 5 average years under a coach that no one else is impressed by

    Never said that did I?

just making an important point that seems often overlooked.

Do you have more faith in a manager who has won two cups in 20 attempts? :giggle1:

All hypothetical. If’s and buts. You’re putting names in there for the sake of your argument. Ntcham? KT? McGregor? Forrest?

The fact is Lennon has inherited the team we have now. Our core starting XI should be here next year. It’s his job along with the board to tie up contracts and get new names in. If Lennon isn’t given that, he won’t take the job as he’s been through this before.

It’s not an important point, it’s an easy cop out and completely undermines the success we’ve had in the past 3 years.
