Avb is a massive nope from me.

Whilst the epl is a laughing stock of revolving managers the manner of his sackings at chelsea and spurs say alot about him.

Falling out with essien, lampard and cole... having the technical director call you in to the principals office for an ear bashing about tactics. Getting the chop and being tactically upstaged by roberto di matteo who had to fix his * up against napoli in the last 16.

Spurs fans were hardly overjoyed when he got the job there. Even after a decent first season there he was blabbering in press conferences about how real madrid and psg wanted him ffs. Club sold Bale and he spunked the lions share of a 110M on duds and also rans like 30m players from roma who were kept out of the starting 11 by andros * townsend and 10m squad players from steaua bucharest who were sold off a season later for less than half the outlay and havent kicked a ball on anger in the last 4 * years. A year after he was out the door he accused spurs of breaking promises on signings... saying he got plan b's to all his targets and he was lied to. This prompted the spurs chairman to actually come out and accuse him of "rewriting history and conveniently forgetting facts." In the same rant on portuguese tv he claimed the same happened at chelsea.

Zenit was better. But like porto he didnt need to do much as he inherited a squad that only needed a couple of additions. Didnt stop him declaring his "mentor" mourinhio a * and that liverpool wanted him after one season. Wins the league and cup in his first full season. 2nd season comes around. Surprise surprise he claims hes blocked from leaving. He also claims (again) hes been let down by the club regarding transfers and wants out. Finishes 3rd. Bolts.

Goes to china. Wins * all. Leaves to become a * rally driver.

    Hes undoubtedly an able manager.

But hes defensively retarded and even more of a snake than the snake.

    Nope.

    Just * nope.

AVB and Congerton could be a formidable partnership

Think some of the concerns are valid tho.. 18months out of the game is not ideal. Think he has only ever spent more than one season at any club again not ideal..

As we said before I'd be happy as he's a high calibre coach but we would need a DOF.. to ensure that continuity.. can't see us going down that road, even tho it makes sense.

Apparently AVB has really poor man-management skills. He's got good ideas and is pretty excellent tactically, he's still incredibly young for a manager too which is quite hard to believe because it feels like it was ages ago that I saw him win the Europa League with Porto.

Have some doubts with AVB but if it's a pick between him, appointing Lennon permanently or David Moyes/Steve Clarke then it's a no brainer.

Even the remotest possibility of it being Moyes gives me the absolute shivers..

I pray that DD and PL aren’t even considering it.

18 months out of the game for a manager isnt that long though mate barring in mind he's young and being a manager is a long game, plus he's not going to lose any of his coaching/managerial qualities over a break it's not something that leaves you that young and the game hasn't moved on that much over the last couple of years that its as if he will be out of tune. I agree with the 1 year at a club max, think he spent 18 months at Spurs and turned down approaches from PSG and Madrid he was there, not that makes him a world class manager but at his age its a decent thing to be able to say although obvs he got sacked in end, his record domestically at all his clubs bar Chelsea is also excellent particularly at Porto who are/were similar to ourselves in terms of domestic dominance at the time and he went on to win the Europa League with them.

Yeah our scouting/recruitment dep needs completely re booting, Villas Boas is a big name and would get big names to come play for us I reckon and I dont think he'd have a hard on for EPL players neither, but it all depends on our board really, are they willing to start spending 6-7 mil on a player and sell them on for 20m+ or are we going to keep buying 2-4m players to sell at 10m+? Because the 6-7 mil players will start helping us make inroads in Europe and I really dont see any top manager joining us unless we promise to give them funds to have ago at things in Europe because an SPL medal to the vast majority of good managers means very little.

Saying all that I would be absolutely astounded if Villas Boas came to us, again he is someone who could probably walk into a job in a far better league get sacked and still walk into another decent job and will be much better paid for it.

Is be happy if he came here for 2 years, won us the 10 then went back to rallying or canoeing or whatever he wants to do.

Only thing I can see as a black mark against him is he seems to get bored and wants to move on rather quickly.
If we got 2 years and 10 in a row he could cover himself in oil and wrestle grizzly bears after that for all I care.
We need someone who is going to get us over that line to the 10 whilst also keeping us moving in a forward direction.
Oh and who’ll tell Congerton to get to *!

If we could get the tactical side from AVB and man management from Lenny it would be perfect.

I wouldn't give much weight to him failing at Chelsea and falling out with the players just about every manager in the last 10 years has lost their job at Chelsea because of the players being absolute *, of all the big clubs in England I imagine it's the absolute worst to manage in terms of egos.

His cv is better than the rats was before he got here won titles won cups won a europa league and got to the last 16 of the CL twice, there's always a risk in appointing any manager but I think he'd be a phenomenal appointment and would breathe new life into the club.
