Who would have thought that the hun goal was their first attempt on goal in the game.

It wasn't Lenny who turned down £9million for a useless defender for a single year. At what the snake valued Boyata we could have a £36million defender on a 4 year contract.

No. But that seems to be the reason some people want him as manager.

Seeing teams like Leipzig reach the Europa semi finals, Ajax teaching the CL last 8 by pumping Real in the Bernabeu and who do some of our fans want to have us competing like that? Neil Lennon :giggle1:

Leipzig are a team in the Bundesliga backed by a franchise, do you honestly think we should be matching that?

Have they closed the gap though, I'm not sure. Points gap is bigger than last year and the first half yesterday was us dominating as much as in previous years. I'd love to play them with a fully fit squad to choose from and that would be a better gauge.

Ah, the team that conistently fails to get into the Champions League. I have higher ambitions than that for our club.

A manager who failed to secure group stage football of any description in half of his seasons in charge here? Right oh.

Do your high ambitions extend to cup competitions?

(Why are élite clubs courting Rose, when Lennon is available?)

And yet still has done better than Rose did eh? A proven track record of failure to reach the Champions League isn’t what I want, somebody adapting to a new league, a new city, a new club and a new style of football isn’t what I want. A gamble of being able to adapt to the goldfish bowl of Glasgow.

I want somebody who has been in charge of a big club before, who has proven he has the mentality to not cave to the pressure of being a manager at a club the size of Celtic, who has proven he can navigate qualication rounds, who has a good track record at buying cheap and selling high, who has punched above his weight in Europe, who has proven he knows how to win leagues.

Lennon is the most obvious one there for me. I wouldn’t mind Rose, his style of football is fantastic but the major thing for me is that he has proven a failure since 2017 to get past qualifying rounds for the Champions League with what you would need to say is a far better team than ours. That wouldn’t fill me with much hope of growth as a club. We need Champions League football, there’s no question about that.

2 points here for me Vertie.

    1. You were the one earlier talking about folk being "selective" in their views. I largely agree with that, however the first thing I thought when I read that was about was Roses CL failures ? If the times Lenny failed to make the CL are a negative then the times Rose has failed to do it also have to be and they don't get mentioned when folk are championing Rose.(Not particularly you, just generally.)

    2. How do you view the cup competitions ? This is the one thing that largely is within Lennon's control between now and the end of the season. If we comfortably beat Aberdeen and Callie T/Diet DOBs does this change your opinion on Lenny in the cups ? If not I don't see how bringing it up makes much sense tbh.

In terms of your last statement. Genuinely doesn't really mean anything to me but wouldn't want you to think I had ignored it. Yes this is the internet and folk can say whatever they want but it doesn't really mean much to me. One week "Martinez's odds are slashed", the next" Benitez's odds are slashed." Who is "courting who" in the press or on the internet just doesn't mean anything to me personally.

This is a big thing for me Dev. I'm definitely not saying Rose couldn't handle it, however I don't ever see any evidence of this being a consideration in any of the posts championing Rose ( which is a fair enough position to take.). I know Wim Jansen came in and stopped the 10 so it absolutely can be done but it does have to be a serious consideration. Managing Celtic ( especially towards 10 in a row) is not like managing in the EPL or Austria or anywhere else.

See the thing is, if we weren’t going for the ten just now I’d probably say Rose as well. Lenny’s guarenteed success, Rose as talented as he is, has a lot that he doesn’t know about us or this city and I’ve seen a lot of people crumble under the oressure at Glasgow

Half of the time; the other half of the time, he failed to secure group stage football of any description.

He blew the only title challenge that he has faced in his managerial career, with four games left. * forbid nine- and ten-in-a-row come down to the wire with Lennon in charge.

What has Lennon accomplished since 2014?

Relegation from the Championship with Bolton?

I won't hold that against him because Bolton are a basket case, but it speaks volumes that he ended up at Bolton in the first place.

A Scottish Championship title and a fourth-placed finish with Hibernian? (He left Hibernian in eighth place.)

Tommy Wright has secured three consecutive 4th-placed finishes and won the Scottish Cup with St. Johnstone (and St. Johnstone now occupies eighth place in the league). Should we consider him? He has fewer resources available to him than Lennon did at Hibernian.

We both want to see an ambitious managerial appointment, but we clearly have different ideas about what that means.

I am genuinely thankful that Lennon has steadied the ship in the wake of Rodgers' exit, but I would be astounded if he were the outstanding candidate for the job on a permanent basis, come the end of the season - unless the board neglects to do its job.

Sorry Vert but there is no balance in this post whatsoever. Fair enough you have your opinions. That's fine as long as you don't attempt to suggest folk that "champion" Lennon are any different.

Fair enough. I agree with that.

By the end of the season, Lennon will have won either two or three cups out of a possible ten, during a period of unprecedented dominance for Celtic in Scotland. Is that good enough?

My point was that no other club with our aspirations would consider appointing Lennon.

Nae bother mate. You go on belittling Celtic’s achievements over the last 8 years in your wee tirade.
