Massive result but don’t see how it’s a giant slaying’.

Same way beating Anderlecht away wasn’t a giant slaying.

Your probably too young to understand the difference. Winning or even getting a draw away to Rosenberg was less likely than beating Milan or Juventus at home.

Once the path has been laid it's easier for others to follow:lenny2:

Think a lot of fans have unrealistic expectations of what we can achieve on the European stage..

He was a rookie manager given the job of rebuilding a terrible team. His first CL campaign he got us out of the group only to have his team ripped apart and be expected to do it again. Up to that point we had seen a steady improvement in him as a manager and his team.

Probably had the smallest nett spend or actually is that the biggest negative spend of any of our recent managers. If he was treated with respect instead of as a money making tool then we might have seen repeat of the 3rd season.

For perspective we would need to see the profit generated by the club over his tenure and the continued profit from sal of players after he left.

True, but all Celtic managers have to contend with that, so it is a fair measure of success.

Two cups out of a possible nine is unacceptable.

    Bullshit.

Calling him a ‘giant slayer’ because of one result is ridiculous.

Getting put out at home to Morton and Aberdeen, when the finals were at Parkhead, was a disgrace.

Easiest opportunity for a treble ever and we bottled it.

True but not to the same extent. Why not ask for the financials for the previous managers.

Was it unreasonable to expect us to knock out one of Braga or Utrecht?

Was it unreasonable to expect us to knock out Sion? Was it unreasonable to expect us to finish second in a group with Rennes and Udinese?

Which one? I gave you another one.

He would satisfy you by the way? Klopp, Guardiola? If we got them given time they probably wouldn't be goo enough either.

Was it reasonable to expect a guy with no managerial experience to come in and turn a team of losers into a latter stage EL team straight away. Rodgers with his big wage, all his experience and all his big spend struggled to do it in his 3rd year

You’re fooling no one saying Spartak are a ‘giant’. A giant result yes, not a giant slaying.

Preferably I’d want us to go for a young manager that will get us playing an aggressive, pressing, attacking style that will get the fans onside and not be terrified of any big team in Europe.

I would be going all out for Marco Rose just now but I don’t think there’s any chance he comes.

Given St Mirren were pumping us 4-0 only a few months before then probably. Braga went on to beat Arsenal and Sevilla that season.

We were undefeated (and had a better head-2-head) against Rennes and Udinese. Our only defeats came (reasonably narrowly) against an Atletico Madrid side that went on to win the competition.

Qualification for the CL is realistic, what happens when he get there is a bit of a lottery tbh..

Every Celtic manager struggles playing Hamilton on a Sat and having 90% possession to then be paired with a decent side midweek, the step-up can be very difficult at times.

And it’s getting tougher for us to even qualify..

Even MON, with Henrik and Sutton et al didn’t get through the group stages and he spent millions.

    What’s your expectations?

    Barga were decent tbf..

I’m not convinced about Lenny but it’s no coincidence every Celtic manager in recent years has had issues making us consistently competitive in Europe. Hard to see that changing much no matter who’s at the helm.

I can see why you would. As your opinion on our last two managers who tried this style of football will no doubt testify.

    Oh, hang on....
