First player in the UK to get his hands on the big cup. No one will ever take that away from him. * legend of a man. Won't see his likes again! They'll be still talking about him in 100years and more!

Behind every great man there has to be a great woman. Liz McNeill is as much a part of our family and history being the First Lady.

If the players weren’t married Jock would enforce marriage. Billy leads the way.

This is an interesting interview. I was actually thinking about him recently, for two reasons, when reading the comments from John Park and after seeing Lenny's interview.

Firstly, both Lenny and possibly Park showed in their interviews a real humility. Not a lack of confidence or unhealthy self-effacement; just a realistic humility that keeps themselves in accurate proportion.

I don't really know Park and I'm not going to judge him on one interview; but it's something neither Brendan (talented though he definitely is) nor Congerton had and Lenny does have this quality IMO.

It's something I always associated with Celtic as a kid, because growing up all the big Celtic men I saw (Burns, McNeil as manager, Paul McStay) had it- and it's something I noticed before I even became a Celtic fan in 92. It's something Larsson really has too. You don't really see that so much in football these days.

Secondly, I find it a useful oversimplification* to think of people in two categories: people who naturally speak what they are thinking and feeling and need to exert effort to speak more carefully; and people who naturally choose their words based on the effects they believe they will have and need to exert effort to speak from the heart. You don't need to be Derren Brown to see which category Lawwell and Brendan come in; and yet equally the former type is what I associated with Celtic from my childhood and that comes over loud and clear in that interview above.

    * It's an oversimplification, partly because you occasionally get people like Martin O Neil who can do both with equal facility depending on the occasion and who they are talking to. I always suspect that it maybe MON was naturally a McNeil/Burns type who trained himself to get good at the more strategic type of communication in his legal training, but I guess we'll never know.

Anyway, I know I'm rambling, the point I was trying to make is that he is a proper Celtic man, which is a bigger compliment than perhaps some younger fans know.

I remember seeing the comments and the hun scum laughing when Billy was invited to take part in the Champions League draw a few seasons ago.
He looked ill and needed help to open the balls.
Absolutely disgraceful way to treat the man.:47:

FOLLOWING recent social media speculation regarding Celtic legend Billy McNeill, the McNeill family has issued this update.

'Further to speculation circulating on social media we would like to confirm the following. As is widely known, our father, Billy, has been battling dementia for some time. He is currently in hospital receiving treatment for an illness. However, at no time have the family been called to his bedside and reports of his death are untrue.

'Whilst we appreciate the love and appreciation shown towards our father, the current rumours are upsetting to us as a family. We would appreciate if people would refrain from spreading such stories and respect our request for privacy in this matter.'

Thank * for that. Big Billy was a battler in his playing days, and is obviously still up for a fight!

Best wishes go to Cesar and his family :shamrock:
