From 47k to 45k under Ronny according to what I can see via Google. The real drop came under Mowbray (57k to 46k) and we never really recovered until Brendan came in.

Lennon's better than both Mowbray and Deila put together , whether he can continue the level of domestic success Rodgers has had remains to be seen,But he done well in Europe that Rodgers never really done.

Lenny has now twice been brought in as an emergency at the end of a season. It worked the first time-although it ended acrimoniously due to under investment in the team. I really hope it works this time. When Peter Lawwell has had the time to decide on an appointment they have tended to be poor -disastrous in Mowbray's case.
The average attendance dropped to 45,582 when Peter Lawwell appointed Tony Mowbray. They rose again when Lenny stepped in as an emergency at the end of the season, rising to 50,904 but started dropping when we started downsizing our investment in the team-which led to Lenny leaving. They dropped even lower than Mowbray's season under Ronny Delia-44,585 in his final season.

When Desmond brought Rodgers to the club the average attendance rose hugely: 57,624 last season.

Fans will turn up in huge numbers when they see evidence of their support being translated into investment in the team and the management of the team.

The comparison with Rodgers vs Lennon in Europe is an interesting one.

    Rodgers (1-3-8) vs Lennons (4-1-7)

Lennons forst foray in the CL saw us beat Barca at home, a monumental and unforgettable result. However the rest of the teams that made up this group were far weaker in comparison to the teams Rodgers faced in his time.

Look at Lennons second trip to the Champions League in a much stronger group more comparable to both groups BR faced. Barca again, Milan and Ajax, we won 1 game from 6 in that group.

Yes Lennon progressed further than Rodgers and achieved a massive result against Barca at home, however, his second season was extremely poor and seen us take a very heavy defeat against the Catalans(6-1). That first season was impressive against them, 3-3 aggregate over the 2 games. Again looking at the second season 7-1 aggregate against.

Rodgers first season did have some success, 2-2 aggregate against a Man City side that hadn’t lost or drawn a single game to that point which is certainly not to be forgotten either and let’s look at the seeds we were up against under Rodgers. PSG, Bayern, Man City & Barcelona - * against the wind to say the least.

Rodgers also managed to earn more co-ef points per season in comparison to Lennon however Lennon did manage to spend a lot less for his success.

Yeah, in an ideal world the SPFL would have a half decent TV deal, all our teams could afford a better calibre of players and the league would be more competitive. But being where we are now we have to live within our means and PL seems to be doing a bang up job of it. For my money I think investment in the club and investment in the playing sqaud should be considered two seperate things. So long as we have a sqaud good enough to get into the group stages and we have a healthy balance sheet all I see is progress, slow as it might be it is progress. I do believe that we as a club made investment into our youth and we are seeing that pay off now, so many talanted young player recently breaking into the sqaud and it's fantastic to see. Not only do we not pay a transfer fee for developing these great young players we can get a good many number of years service before selling them on for silly money.

Our youth set up was a long term investment, the progress of our club of the qaulity of our first team will be medium to long term too, we simply don't have the resources to completely rebuild our team like many of the monied clubs in Europe do. The ideal is that we catch up to the Ajax's and Porto's of the world, bringing on our own youth prospects, developing them and selling for a good profit, slowly filling our coffers and improving step by step untill it is realistic that we can go out and pick up the odd 20million player here and there. We are still a ways off from that but its not unachievable and we are moving in the right direction.

I think 9m for Brendan is a great deal for us. He's left us in a state. Just a shame we couldn't get rid during January so we could set the foundations for next summer

Rodgers would have been much more valuable than that 9 million and what we will do with it.

He would have been but we never had a choice in the matter tbh.

Even if we backed him by spending £6m on Scott McKenna or £8m on Timothy Castagne he would have been off at the first sniff of the EPL.

Unless we were spending 300 mill a summer Rodgers teams were never going to do anything in Europe because of how he likes to play

AJAX chief executive, Edwin van der Sar, has revealed that he is working behind the scenes with his Celtic counterpart, Peter Lawwell, to stop their clubs being cut out of the picture by European football’s wealthy elite.

The Dutchman has watched with pride as Ajax have flown the flag for the continent’s smaller countries this season by reaching the Champions League quarter-finals this season, by knocking out holders Real Madrid last week.

Ajax will get the prize for that remarkable feat when the draw for the last eight is made today in Switzerland. Along with Porto of Portugal, they are the rank outsiders with Barcelona, Juventus and the English Premier League quartet – Manchester City, Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United.

These days, Van der Sar, 48, is on the board of the Amsterdam club – having also won the trophy as Ajax goalkeeper in 1995 – but insists that former European champions, like Ajax and Celtic, need their past achievements to count in helping to protect their chances of even getting an invite to the top table.

Ajax negotiated three qualifying rounds in the Champions League, and ended up getting AEK Athens in their group after the Greeks knocked out Celtic, eventually coming second behind Bayern Munich.

However, van der Sar admits it has become incredibly tough for teams from outside Europe’s top five leagues to even get into the Champions League group stage.

That is the difficulty for the smaller countries, and mid-sized countries. Celtic and Ajax are great names in history,” said van der Sar “They both have great followings, all over the world, not just in Holland and Scotland.

“They are historic clubs, they have both won the European Cup, but that is why it is difficult not to be involved. We see the Champions League running away a little bit.”

Lawwell and van der Sar have a shared vision from their roles on the European Club Association, an independent body representing 232 clubs from 54 countries.

Senior club executives from across the continent have met several times in February to try to shape Uefa policy about the Champions League and Europa League, and especially entry to the group stages.

I have been talking to Peter Lawwell for some time,” said van der Sar. “The ECA is talking to Uefa, trying to make sure there is more participation and more possibilities for clubs from medium and smaller-sized countries, so we can develop and play football at this level.

“Many of us are looking at a different way of how teams are set up and how the competition is set up. Maybe to look at the co-efficient of the club see at what the club has done in Europe, than only looking at the national co-efficient. And not just recent years.”

This summer we need an entirely new defence minus left back and 2 strikers. We have 36 players in our first team squad. That's a mess

That's title number eight in the bag and the treble treble within sight.

If we invest the money we've hoarded away over the past couple of seasons and make the right managerial appointment we can put ourselves completely out of reach of Sevco and make the ten a formality. The only people who can stop Celtic making history are the Celtic board.

    Over to you Mr Lawwell.
