Aye and BR was a fkn "fan".......impartial professionals taking informed business decisions should run the club, I have never bought into the "celtic man / fan " mantra......and certainly as far as running the business side of Celtic a "fan" would make daft decisions made on sentiment not logic. It is funny the way the fan base flip flops between sheer hatred and passionate love for Pistol Pedro. Honestly think lots of times are bipolar.

He’s clearly excellent at his job but for me has too much power at the club. He’s practically a dictator despite ostensibly being under the board, Desmond trusts him entirely and that means he can do whatever he wants.

In a wider sense it’s good that Peter has ingratiated himself with the European footballing royalty. He’s very well respected by the bosses of far richer clubs and that can’t be a bad thing.

I was going to say that the one 'good' thing that is emerging from this mess is that while Pete/Board aren't perfect they are far from the antichrist's some seem * bent on believing in but we still seem to have a few who think this way, no doubt they are the same people who would have backed br to the hilt as late as sunday evening.
Now we even have people trying to spin, negatively, what the board should be commended for doing, this is as unbelievable as it is tragic.

Neil Lennon will be given the job permanently, after being sacked by Hibs and Bolton. He'll be absolutely toothless when it comes to discussion on transfer budgets due to his CV - which would leave him out of contention for a job at Aberdeen or Kilmarnock, so he'll be happy at Celtic under any circumstances.

Get ready for a Peter Lawwell with more power than ever.

He's an overpaid, self observed leech on our club. We were in a UEFA Cup final a few months before Lawwell arrived, and now look at us.

 

If you don't think Peter Lawwell had anything to do with us winning titles then I'm afraid your hatred of him is blinding you. He's the one who hired the managers, he's the one who closed the deals for the players, he along with the board are the reason the club is financially stable and will be for the foreseeable future. He might not have the impact the manager and players have on the pitch but he's one of the people behind the scenes that builds the foundations for us off it.

He's the one who fails to deliver the targets the managers asked for.
He's the one who made us buy Willo Flood and nobody else in the last January transfer window of Strachan's era.
He's the one who decided Ledley wasn't getting a contract extension, and punted Samaras against Lennon's wishes. Both Hooper and Wanyama were sold, but proper replacements never came. He also tried to shove Deila up on Lennon as the Assistant Manager.
Finally, he's the one who didn't back Rodgers when things were going swimmingly, and people just wanted the success of season 1 to be built upon. Yes, Rodgers turned to be a *, but Lawwell is a gigantic *.

I am sure anyone from this forum with a degree in finances and management would be of more use to the club.

 

Peter Lawwell continuously recorded losses at Celtic before Rangers died. He did not have the qualifications nor experience to become chief executive of any professional football club, let alone Celtic.

 

Fans should never ever forget the fact that the club was literally minutes from being wound up and be grateful that we are not in the shambles the Huns were and are in, and having learned the lesson, will never ever be in desperate straights again.

 

I agree with your assessment of PL, but I don't agree on the Lennon thing so much. Neil has been burned once by the same board and same CEO. I would expect him to make certain demands in the summer. And the part of his CV that matters most, would give weight to those demands. (Minimal interference ifrom the board in contract extensions for players Neil deems important to the team, a set amount of funds per each transfer window to be stipulated in the contract...)

Now, Lawwell likes his power, yes. And I feel he will not give in easily. We might not be having Lennon stay in the summer.

 

So we should accept mediocrity because Rangers went bust?

 

Hope Lawell and the board have some half decent targets set up regarding the defence so we have a chance of qualifying for the C.L. group stages last season they lost a load of money in failure to qualify another failure and they might be bringing back the top tier banner from the Diela era
