Di Canio says that he wanted to stay in his book though, why would he say that 6 years later when he was at another club (West Ham). His book is excellent and he rips into most of his managers but he says many times how he admired Tommy, who really made him feel welcome here. Di Canio fell out with McCann who supposedly lied to him about his contract terms.
Again I'm too young to remember, I'm just going by what I read in his book. He is a diehard Lazio ultra and yet he concedes that our derby is the best in the world.
The chapter in the book is called "Celtic Passions". This doesnt seem like the way to describe a stint at a "stepping stone club".

The naivety on this board is amazing. Do you think he's going to come out and say 'Aye I used them' ? Footballers are full of * and will say anything to keep the fans happy. Believe me he had no intention of being here for long, and he wasn't. Also he claims that he had a 'gentleman's agreement' with McCann for a wage rise. Why not get it written in to the contract ? That's why players employ agents. So there are no grey areas re their contracts.

i think the turmoil over maloney was ,celtic looked afterhim through a carearer threatning injury,
to witch the celtic spent tens of thoussands of pounds/dollers to save him from retireing ,

than as soon as he got back to first the first team ,,he decided he wanted more money but celtic thought they had done enough for shaun already

so stalemate un till the final hour of the transfer window ,villa took him for a meesley million pound ,,

Petrov was a legend, he signed a new contract with us when he had every intention of leaving, just so we would get some money for him.

He also gave us 8 years of service.

Maloney and Miller are the 2 i hate most. Let us pay their wages while they were lying on the treatment table year in year out, then give us one year and leave for nothing.

Van Hooyadonkey takes the prize for disgracing the Celtic shirt as fas as I'm concerned. When he was asked by a repporter for his reaction about being offered a new contract worth 10k per week, his reply was something along the lines of..."that would be okay for a homeless person"

Yet another who was so far up his own * he'd have needed a GPS to find his way out. Interesting how he left us and ambled into obscurity!

Petrov shouldn't be here. Didn't like the look on his face when we one the league, but he made sure we got top dollar for him by signing that contract. Di Canio was a little *. Great player, but as sleekit as they come. Cadete and Hooijdonk too. McCann stuck to his guns and set a prescedent for future prima donnas; we operate on a wage structure that won't bend to demands. He was the bedrock of our current success.

I thought this thread was about rubbsih players. This year I think Naylor disgraced the shirt. Didnt look like he was giving his all when you look at how he could play last year. I have a bit of sympathy and patience for struggling players but not him. Otherwise I think the players tried their best. Last year at time JJ was a bit of a disgrace in SPL games. But we have nothing on Cousin at Rangers. He was disgraceful in the last months of the season. If I was a bluenose I would be raging.
