I know we get all this talk that Brendan is a "master" with the media, but where is the evidence for this? What has he done in press conferences or media communications that have really been a masterstroke or even beneficial to the team lately? Not asking to slate the guy, just genuinely wondering where this talk comes from.

So he doesn’t know a great deal about the players we are signing, and he doesn’t know how contract talks with our captain have gone?

Are we paying him £45,000 a week to take training sessions?

Not that it's a groundbreaking idea in here, but the tone he has taken lately of distancing himself from all administrative/"club" matters is certainly worrying and to me means that he is most probably off in the summer. He's being pretty blatant in showing that the board is operating over his head without his consensus on several matters now. This coupled with all the 6 month loan deals and Maryn Shved patter only points in one direction for me.

If Brown, Lustig, Compper, Gordon go in the summer, or before, with the other out of contract players and the loans we have in. Someone (hopefully Brendan) has an awful lot of money for a transfer kitty and wages. And a whole lot of gaps in the squad to fill.

Theres a massive rebuild right around the corner if no more business is done this window, a lot of fans aren't looking that far ahead. I hope to * our recruitment team are. First champions league qualifier 9/10 July.

I was waiting for that response.

How much credit can he take for those honours when, if he is to be believed, he has little to no input or responsibility outside of training sessions and games?

The board, much maligned, should surely be lauded for shouldering managerial responsibilities and winning those trophies.

Of course, the reality is that he has much more input and many more responsibilities than he pretends to have (which is why he is rightly recognised as the key figure in our run of seven consecutive domestic major honours).

It’s obvious.. but since you asked..

One example is how he talks up what a great job his domestic opponents are doing before we play them, McInnes is a prime example of this, he’s had our closest challenger eating out of his hands..psychologically winning the battle before a ball is kicked..

Also how he talks about Hampden, has made it a home for home all by careful media manipulation and player management.. he talks up how the surface suits us and it’s the National Stadium etc.. all this filters through to the fans and players..if we get to a Hampden Semi, I’ve never been so confident in winning the game and ultimately the tournament than under BR..

He’s an expert at fielding questions and never gets taken down he doesn’t want to be led.. he’s smooth and articulate in fact if you were a young coach you’d study BR and how he deals with media spotlight that comes with managing a high profile Club, never gives anything he doesn’t want to, only MON comes close..

My one criticism is how he talks us down before facing CL opposition, as if resigned to our fate before a ball is kicked, no matter how realistic that may be, it sends out the wrong message and creates the wrong mindset imo.. and is factor in some of the trouncings we’ve had in the CL under his tenure.

£2mil spend the window after selling Dembele for £20mil and Armstrong for £8mil :56::56::56:

    There is no justifying it.

I agree with all of that.

I would add that his ambiguous and evasive remarks over so-called club matters often create unnecessary friction between the club and supporters.

I think he will but not due to this, I think it’s more Broony and BR have said everything they need to so it’s now just Broony and Lawwell at the table.

This is it in a nutshell for me. It's indefensible and the same old * yet people continually brush it off.

Yes obviously it's not FIFA and that money has to be spread around a bit but fs you're not telling me all we can afford is a £2m outlay. Even if we spend another 2 on Shved £4m is still underwhelming.

Especially considering both him and Bayo will be on no more than £10-15k a week in wages. Perhaps less in Bayo's case!

If we don't sign a RB this window its sheer * negligence. Not buying the nonsense about us not being able to find one in our price range either. We've had months if not years to see this position as a target area.

It’s the lack of transparency, we deserve better..

We need to know why, we’re stockpiling cash..

CB is needed too, with Benkovic and Boyata gone in the summer. Can't wait for us scrambling for defenders, in the midst of the CL qualifiers !

Fair enough, these are all good points.

With that said though I don't think it's particularly difficult for any manager to win the psychological battle against McInnes :lingua:

Rodgers is definitely a smooth talker and a well-spoken, articulate man- that much is undeniable. I agree that before our Champions League matches he almost gives our players the benefit of the doubt and a 'way out' before the fight has begun, which comes across as a bit weak to me. Everyone knows the financial disparity and the gap in resources/ability of our players versus top flight European competition.

I just wish he would keep more of the drama regarding the transfer saga in house instead of offering some of these passive-aggressive comments for the media to feast upon. Sometimes it's a bit embarrassing for him to be so transparent about the struggles he has working with the board if he's not going to do (or is simply unable TO do) anything about it materially.

I think he is distancing himself from transfers to the media, and giving certain messages to put pressure on the board indirectly.

In fairness it’s exacatly what he should be doing. The board know if Brendan walks away claiming he has took the club as far as he could due to our transfer strategy then the board and PL in particular will feel heat not seen since willo flood transfer window.

Also sends msg to any potential future manager that even with the success Brendan brought to the club, and the finances brought in through sucessive champions league participation and big fees brought in for players, The manager still isn’t supported to the level he would hope.

I think we are moving further away with each window to the belief both the support and the manager had that we are signing quality over quantity that Brendan talked about apoun his arrival at the club. And that the wage structure in place would have been adjusted for the right player if that player could make a serious impact in helping bring us to that next level along with providing an opportunity to make a significant return should they be sold on.

I really believed when Brendan came on board he had the assurances from Desmond that he would be signing players on another level to any previous manger since MON, and while I accepted them players would have been moved on a lot quicker than MON ever did, to provide a return value on any purchase I was excited to see a team that could potentially compete in Europe and filled with several top players that we would maybe move one on each season to keep that conveyor belt of quality to the club continuing.
