Talking about only signing quality again.

Really wish he was as good at signing players as is he talking about it.

He wouldn’t know how to sign a quality defender if he smashed him in the face.

He has an eye for forward players but he is as much use as a chocolate fire hard when he looks at defenders.

Attacking minded managers tend to flood their team with attacking talent, look at pep at City even some of his defenders are suspect.

Since Dembele went we've not had the same dynamic even Roberts and Armstrong chipped in , its only natural he should look to replace that first chance.
Athough we still have a wealth of attackers at the club and 3 new boys coming in so far , best form of defense is attack , if attack is good enough we should win most games , but on the occasion if it's nullified as we have seen pressure then goes onto our defense and they dont handle that too well.

Brendan Rodgers has warned that Celtic will have fork out top dollar to land a proper replacement for Mikael Lustig - and that he won't waste his time with bargain basement alternatives.

The Parkhead boss made it clear that he isn't interested in stumping up for squad fillers when he needs players capable of coming straight into the team.

Rodgers set his sights on Atalanta defender Timothy Castagne but is in danger of being priced out of the market with the Serie A side looking for up to £10m for the Belgian ace.

Celtic are also interested in Olympiacos star Omar Elabdellaoui but the Greek side are understood to want around £8million for the Norwegian international.

The champions have also been linked with Porto full back Fernando Fonseca and Dominic Iorfa at Wolves.

But Rodgers said: “We know we have areas we want to improve on. If we’re going to bring in players, they have to be of real quality.

“We have an international right-back (Lustig), an international back-up (Cristian Gamboa) and a young international (Anthony Ralston) who has been playing as cover.

“It’s not rocket science, if you want to improve in that position or any other position. It’s not always about spending money, but we have areas of the field we have wanted to improve over a number of windows now.

“If we can’t get the ones we want, then I’m really not about stockpiling players. If we can’t get the type we want, then we don’t do anything.”

Rodgers is stepping up the player search and he insisted he’s not sweating on new arrival Vakoun Issouf Bayo.

The Ivory Coast striker’s signing has yet to be rubber stamped due to work permit issues.

Celts had hoped the red tape would have been untangled last week but Rodgers is confident the deal will be completed.

When asked if there was any issues, Rodgers said: “Not that I am aware of, no. Not yet.

“I think there are other elements to it. It is just waiting on that.

“I am only guided by the club, really, I haven’t been given that. It was just time and hopefully that will take place soon.”

Meanwhile Rodgers admitted he would accept video assistant referees in Scotland ahead of full-time refs if it comes to a straight choice between the two.

The Parkhead gaffer attended last week’s SFA crisis talks and will keep up the pressure to make sure proposals are not kicked in to the long grass.

Rodgers said: “It was very productive. It didn’t work for us at the weekend, mind you.

“There’s a lot of debate around it but for the status of the game and the quality of decision making, then if you have a choice between the two, you’d have to go with VAR – 100 perc ent.

“I say that because at least then, at every ground, you would get the decision right.

“For example with us at the weekend, with Scott Sinclair’s goal.

“They could easily go back on that and see it was a good goal.

“If you can get the two things through, great. Through choice, if you couldn’t, and finances allowed one, then for me you have to go with VAR all day long.

“It would enhance the credibility. Listen, the Premier League don’t have VAR yet and it’s the richest and most competitive league in the world.

    “But working towards it, absolutely.”

A bit more like it from the manager.

Hes obviously been made aware if the frustrations within the rank and file support imo.

Good to see that hes (albeit on the surface) iterated his desire to actually spend cash to ensure quality and not take a gamble, escpecially given the last two defensive gambles in hendry and compper.

Whether this is a placating statement or a shot across the bows to lawell and friends is unclear at this point. And saying hed rather have nobody than a cheap squad filler is hardly encouraging as it seems to be exactly the case.

Nonetheless. Better than his usual quality over quantity patter.

Interesting comments on the transfers, time to prove it then and sign quality defenders. If it’s only Gutman and Iorfa pre-contract then we are just going backwards again.

That interview is concerning. The manager is not being backed and it seems he is done covering for the board.

That quote especially stands out. Lawwell is a cancer.

You know their * when the only good thing he can say about them is their 'internationalists', at least he's giving us some hope that a RB is coming in.

To me he sounds like he is making excuses for the recruitment not finding players that cost £5m rather than 10m.

Brendan is right in what he's saying , we might on the off chance now and again unearth a RB or CB for a couple of mill from some obscure league, but you need to pay money for proven talent, players with several caps etc.

Nah. He signed half the * that’s bloating this squad and refuses to get rid of any of it.
He is being backed he wants us signing players for £10million a pop. He can * off to a club who can afford that then.
I’m sick of him saying we need quality then going out and signing De Vries, Hendry, Compper and Hayes.
He’s a bullshit artist who said the exact same * at Liverpool and turned the fans against him.
He signs players, realises they are worse than we have so doesn’t play them then moans he isn’t getting backed?
    He should sign better players!
Lawwell doesn’t scout players. Lawwell doesn’t make McKenna his top target and have a hissy fit when he can’t get Aberdeen’s £10million asking price for him.

He should be allowed to push the boat out on a signing again , given the money we've raked in. not McKenna.

There is no way Hayes commper etc were his top choices. He covered for the board in the past but he clearly has had enough.

We will get a couple more loans because the manager won't be here in the summer.

This isn't our first manager to get exasperated at the board and money available. The man led us to an invicincin treble then a double treble and back to back CL qualifications and EL football after Christmas. He more than anyone masterminded us breaking 100 million turnover by removing the covers in the LL upper and putting bums on seats and what is his reward? His top striker sold at the last second for a record fee and still a negative spend in the transfer market.

If people can't see where the real problem lies then * help you.
