We will only spend decent money when our wage bill is slashed. Our poor recruitment has caused us to have a bloated squad, with players on good wages who we can't shift. For instance guys like Gamboa will undoubtedly have had opportunities to move on but he's been content to stay and play a bit part because he is on good wages, wages other teams prob wont match elsewhere. Hendry, Allan, Mulumbu, Hayes, Gamboa, Compper etc. We'll be saddled with these guys until their contracts run out and they will have contributed next to nothing. Now we have loans and punts to make up the numbers. Shocking mis management, this is when our policy of continually looking for bargains and aiming low comes back to bite us. Lawell and his salary should be chased as well.

Gone are the days of Martin O'Neill who pretty much signed players in there prime 25-30 year olds. He wanted success and never thought about future sell on fees. I'm all for our transfer policy ie getting young players in the door, progress and sell for a profit but we aren't even buying young players with potential. It's all loan deals and the signings we do make are never improving our starting 11 ie Hendry, ajer, Bain, kouassi, mulumbu, Morgan, ntcham. We need a bit of both.

That is part and parcel of being the Celtic manager.

Why? Because the Media have decided that’s the case? Reading into grammatical errors in his speech is * mental.

Partially driven by the winter break, granted.

The problem with bringing up MON is that Rodgers has been more successful so far and the transfer market is so different now.

We had one of the highest wage bills in Europe under MON. Unfair to compare to that time.

We have been told numerous times by Lawwell that we don’t budget for European football.

I’d rarher have Ajer than Boyata and Morgan over sinclair. Ntcham is a regular too (albeit he’s turned into a lazy *). So it’* and miss.

But I agree, there needs to be a mix. And not just * like Commper

CL is not our only source of income. We sell over 50,000 season tickets. We have the 9th-highest attendances in Europe. We've signed our most lucrative manufacturer and sponsorship deals in our history over the last 2 years. Europa League pays. Winning Scottish competitions, though not a fraction on English ones, pays. Club merchandise. And remember, for all the "remember the wages" lines, that HAS to work both ways. We didn't just sell Dembele, we took his high-earning salary off the wage bill.

We have plenty of lucrative streams of income, and our spending doesn't even scratch the surface of what it should. There's no more excuses.

So we have only got rid of Allan so far, yet brought in another 4 players- are we actually gunna release a few players or nah. And now were 19 days in and still haven't bought a player to fix our biggest problem in the defence, great....

Staggering we've not got a new rb yet with our first game back tomorrow its been the problem position for well over a year and should have been priority number one.

Back then Celtic got instant qualification into European competitions. Good players could easily be found for 1m and very good for 5m. These days many * players cost 5m. From what I remember Celtic were not the most financially stable around the time he left. At the time Celtic and Rangers spent money they didn't have trying to out do each other.

Well I'm now officially in the very concerned club dia to the lack of movement on the defence front particularly the RB slot.

Actually would be interesting to see us with a different board and that.

I know Dermot does a lot for us, his backing is good for the company, but he doesn't actually put his own money in to keep us as a going concern. We are self sufficient and all that, would be interesting to see if a different board in there would be able to change the priorities, do things a little different and if we could actually go up in the world of football.

The big leagues are stretching further and further away, that's accepted of course. But even leagues and clubs of similar or lesser than us are now doing better.

We aren't in a bad shape, but the way we are run, so tightly, it makes us actually go backwards as a footballing power (respectively in the levels we are at).

We've backed ourselves in to a corner with this transfer policy to the point we have a large wage bill spread across a large squad of average players (outside of maybe 15 or so players), who have contributed very little and have very little, if any resale value. In short we're saddled with alot of these guys. Longer term we need to have a shake up of our transfer policy so that we can go for higher calibre players, a smaller squad supplemented by youths OR get a better talent spotter in our scouting team. Unfortunately our board are happy to continue down this road as long as we are top of the pile domestically, whether thats by 1 point or 10. They won't spend significantly until players are moved on, easier said than done or we look like we're in trouble and their hand is forced. Get used to more of the same for window after window until the * hits the fan.

Martin o'neill spent wisely he bought good players Sutton for £6 million instead of six players for £1 million hoping one of them turned out to be good.* sell on fees it's clear as day that the money isn't being reinvested

Exactly mate! And players you wanted to go and watch every week. Apart from dembele, who was the last permanent signing that we could actually get excited about...

That's a load of *. If we had a decent scouting network we could find players for 5m that would instantly improve us in Europe and would walk it at domestic level. We bid 4m on the rb from Olympiakos and he doesn't look *. Simple fact is the money is there why isn't it being invested. Get 1 or 2 quality signings in now in the positions we need strengthened ie rb and cb, bed them in for the qualifiers to potentially gain that 40m from Europe. It's a disgrace. I can't remember strachan or O'Neill going down the route of loan signings to improve our starting 11

On our squad page on celtic website we have 34 first team players. Of that list there is easily 12-14 players who I would want rid of. They are either past their best or are never going to be good enough. Would much rather have the high wage bill spread amongst a smaller squad filled with more quality than a bloated squad full of too many duds. Been saying it for years but our club could and should be run far better. Would have got rid of that * lawwell years ago.
