We need a new manager in the summer if we want our squad to be in a fit state to challenge for our ninth and tenth consecutive titles (if we are still on course for them).

Our player recruitment policy is beyond negligent now; it is downright harmful.

So you are saying it’s time for him to go?

No new centre half then? Absolute joke.

Stock us up with loan signings but just keep delaying addressing the problem areas.

His defensive priorities are informed by your avatar.

But its not even a joke at this point.

    Its pure negligence.

The past few windows have actually been a good advertisement for getting in a Director of Football - someone who's going to be here for the long term, and can oversee a broad transfer strategy.

Our entire strategy as a club is fundamentally quite sound and one I agree with - unearth undervalued talent, develop that talent, sell on that talent. It's not ideal (see talented players leave is never enjoyable imo, irrespective of money), but I absolutely get it. The problem is - the building block of that strategy is 'unearth undervalued talent', something that we're doing all too infrequently recently.

You can't guarantee any transfer being a success, but you can maximise your chances through a clear transfer policy and a well structured and resourced scouting team. The whole thing just feels very disconnected at the moment. I'll reserve judgement until the end of the window, but the most recent statement is worrying. I had hoped for better after the 'transfer summit meeting' or whatever it was called in the summer.

Yeah it's beyond a joke now, pretty obvious center half is a massive priority for this window. The majority of people here wanted 2 in, and the fact he's willing to keep boyata and risk yet another champions league campaign? No blaming Lawell this time for me, this is all on Brendan.

You do know that BR has very little say over how much gets spent on who. Watch the Sunderland Till I Die doc you'll see clearly the chain of command on these things. It's the scouts who will find players also the managers but ultimately it's the board that makes the funds available and makes these deals happen. What we need is a change of board before a change in manager. Spending 1-2 Mill after taking in 60M the last couple of years is criminal, straight up criminal

BR can only do with what he's given. If you were the manager and the board turned round and said. We aren't giving you the budget for a New CB let alone 2 What would you say to people?

BR made his feelings known when he publicly spoke out about the board underspending in the summer.

It sounds to me that he's off in the summer, and whether or not we have a settled CB pairing for the qualifiers is not his problem.

He'll play boyata and benkovic cause they're solid and that'll be enough to win us the league and that's priority.

Saying that, isn't he tied down with us until 2021?

Do not get that position regarding a centre back.

Bring in one who is better than boyata, if he wants to play and is good enough, play him.
What's the worse that happens, boyata takes another humph? * boyata, he screwed us over anyway.

Get one in now for * sake!

The only minor positive is that he has admitted it will be addressed in summer, read between the lines could that mean he intends to be here then? Could the previous meeting with DD, pl and br be that the agreement is to get through the season and the funds are released summer for two key centre backs?

I agree but Lawwell's ego would never allow for a Direct of Football. I think he sees himself as a de facto DoF, given he was part of the 3-man signing panel under previous managers.

The issue is, we are going through the same myriad of transfer window excuses.

In January is it supposedly "hard to get the players in" and "hard to find value for money"

And then in the summer it will be, "we are good enough to get through the first few rounds of CL qualifiers"; "we wait until August to know more about what players are doing"; "we need to wait until the English transfer window closes"; "we can't get the quality of player we want until we qualify for CL"

It is negligence from the board for me. I don't think it is Rodgers' call to be pussyfooting around like this.

We genuinely give excuses not to spend at every single point of every single window. The window works the same way for essentially every single club in Europe, and yet we manage to find a problem with it year on year. It's excuse making, and there's no reason to ever have to hear it. You know when the windows are open, get it done.

His refusal to address positions in which we are understrength, in number or quality, or both, is very much separate to the board’s failings.
