    * that.
To be fair it kind of does make us relevant, we developed him and gave him the platform to properly shine so that he could get his move to the promised land of the PL.

Most are just in awe of his rise to where he is now. I’m delighted for him, aside from a slight strop when we wouldn’t sell at first, he gave his all for Celtic.

Larsonnesque the way we knew he was top top draw here but nobody outside believed, now he’s mopping up weekly against the best.

No coincidence Liverpool were top 6 before he came now are probably the best team in the world, CL finalists and unbeaten for a year with a ridiculous amount of clean sheets.

The best defender on earth, easily, for 18 months plus now. He’s a one man 5 a side team.

They're all average compared to VVD.

I meant his style of play. I don't recall him scoring many headers/scrappy set piece goals?

He gets up the pitch, links play, and can even bangs in free kicks! I can't think of many more versatile CBs at that level, I think you could play him in most positions and he'd do a job.

I love football, love debating it and getting involved in discussions - especially when I know about a team/player, which in VVD's case, we all know all about him :50:

It was that qualifier (Maribor?) where he was thrown up front for the last 10 minutes and he was our best striker by miles, it was quite embarassing to be honest. I agree though, he’s a player you could put almost anywhere on the park and he’d stand out.

Football fans regularly debate stuff like this. I can mind almost full scale scrapping with a mate because he was saying Canvarro was better than Maldini.

Just because he’s an ex-player, it doesn’t mean it’s desperate. It’s just football.

We’re not the only people debating it.

Aye, I agree with that. More Chiellini than Ramos...

Chiellini can be a cheating big * as well, he’s just less in your face.

Ramos couples his ‘streetwiseness’ with being an arrogant *. Which I suppose his career allows.

Aye, he’s more sly which is what I was meaning really. Less in your face about it but dominates his area of the pitch.

Ramos can overstep that line far too often.

Cannavaro was a wonderful defender; but he wasn't the best of the period. Maldini and Thuram definitely better. Arguably Desailly and Nesta too.

I'd put him in the top 5 or 6 though, which for a 5'9" CB is astonishing.

I’ll give you Nesta. Don’t like desailly. Made a good advert that was all.
