Honestly he's laughable. Probably makes a mistake of some sort every game dallying on the ball too long or trying to be clever on the deck. Most of the time he get's away with it, today and Motherwell last week but plenty he doesn't..

 

Needs dropped. * drives me mad the way he dallies on the ball, his passing is way too erratic for a team that tries to play football.

What does Bain have to do when he plays to get a run?

I do get they are different but a good shot stopper would be one of the attributes to be good at saving penalties. Were talking here about a guy who virtually never saves a penalty and seems supremely confident in his own abilityon top of his supposed shot stopping qualities.

I note when you made the comparison to penalty taker that your example was a good goal scorer rather than a player who can strike the ball well. Even being a good striker of the ball and being confident in yourself might not make you the best penalty taker in the team but it is probably you would at least be average or slightly below average.

Quite apart from the fact that his kicking would improve our team, Bain deserves his chance.

Penalty saving is all about reading the striker's intentions from his eyes, body language, etc; intimidating them and putting psychological pressure on them; and stealing a few yards off the goal line without taking so much that the referee penalises you and has the penalty taken again (which involves knowing the referee). All of this is an art and Gordon sucks at it. It also demands a degree of psychological awareness he doesn't seem to have. Finally it requires a lot of homework. Good penalty savers do a lot of homework on the opposition's penalty takers. Does Gordon have that obsessive eye for detail in preparation?

You definitely do have to be a good shot stopper as well (which Gordon mostly is IMO), but even a truly great shot stopper (which Gordon probably isn't) would have a bad record at penalties without any of the above.

Rodgers was quick enough to get Izzy off when he made a mistake. Gordon does it most games & still gets a game.

 

Yeah done some research in to that and other keepers. Before yesterday this * had a save rate of 7%. Actually may have dropped below that now.
Where as every other keeper that we should be able to attain, is reaching 22-27%
With McGregor even breaking 30%.

Every time I open this thread I hate the guy even more. Arrogant * who obviously thinks he’s better than he is. To think Sunderland actually paid £9m or something for him once upon a time.

He puts us under sever pressure with his terrible distribution, between him and Rodgers they need to sort it out. Either kick it long when Gordon plays or get a keeper that has actually pass a ball 10 yards.

 

I honestly dont remember him ever saving a penalty for Celtic and wouldnt be surprised if he never did
