Spending £30k+ a week for a top option, a player capable of challenging KT, to sit on the bench all season because he still won’t be better than him even at that price just isn’t realistic IMO. If we did it would be a real misuse of resources.

 

Which is why the McGregors and Mulgrews of this world, who can play several positions, are so important to a squad like ours. From what I saw today, Hayes might be able to cover both LW, LWB and RB. He's stellar in none of these position, but being competent in all 3 is gold dust to us.

 

Think we’ll need to disagree on this one mate.. we need a better option than we have currently, that’s for sure..

Do PSG have any world class LBs surplus to requirements?

 

That’s a fair point but would you want to go into Valencia for example with any of them at LB? We should be aiming higher..

 

That’s my thoughts on it as well mate, we can’t have a specialist left back sitting on a fortune getting 10 odd games a season

 

We’ve been guilty of overplaying KT, be interesting to see how many games he’s played in this Calendar year.. a good LB would certainly play more than 10.. KT has already played 31 games just for his club this season.

 

Nah, a good left back wouldn’t be ‘good’ enough to replace KT.

 

I'd prefer to have our strongest 11 to have the best chance, but sometimes injuries happen. If we have to have players out, Hayes seems a competent option at RB (similarly McGregor or Broony at RB). I know, mate, we don't know if Hayes will look competent in that position in Europe (and I hope we never need to find out); but he did look competent against the second best team in Scotland.

Hopefully KT is back soon.

 

It doesn’t need to be a top LB to be a better option than Izzy.

 

That’s not what we’re debating though.

 

A good LB could easily play 20 games tho.. and the higher the quality the more it would benefit KT.. we’ve been guilty of taking his fitness, consistency & will for granted. I just want us to get the highest quality player possible to help him and the squad.

And there’s no reason why that can’t be attainable, we are a striving to be a top quality club..

Diminishing KT’s role at the club just isn’t a route I think we need to spend a fortune on doing mate.

 

We wouldn’t diminish his role, he’ll be Captain soon..

 

Many more positions need strengthening as a priority, especially where our players aren’t even first choice in the team.
Look & sort there first. Then sort the other weaker areas & only then should you come back to this.

 

Benching him more is diminishing his role for me mate, I just don’t see it as a priority. Maybe after a couple of RB’s, CB’s, goalkeeper, left winger and striker.

 

So we look to have signed a young RB, heavily linked with another, Ralston, Gamboa and Lustig.. at LB we just expect KT to play every game, this is the wrong way to look at it imo, good friends..

After seeing Izzy struggle away at Hibs and Aberdeen and get outpaced a few times at home, I believe it to be a priority.. maybe less so than the ones mentioned but a priority none the less..

Like I say, we may be having to play Hayes at LB at Ibrox on Sat or change shape because of it, not to mention European football, we have the chance to bring someone in, in Jan we should.

I take the point it may not be the quality I’m looking for but we defo need better..

 

I’m not doubting that in the slightest, I’m just saying it’s bonkers to even attempt to sign a ‘top player’ at left back.

1) they won’t play infront of KT so doubt they’d want to be here.
2) if we threw enough money at them, aye they would. Then you have a very highly paid player barely playing.
3) there’s other more prominent areas of the squad that need attending to.

 

If KT was out for a lengthy spell, we would need top cover.. that can come in many forms it doesn’t need to be £30k a week..

 

What do you mean by ‘top cover’ a top player for Celtic for me is in the mould of Broony, KT, Benkovic...?
