Usually BT or the presenters get hit with these little facts and stats beforehand when Barbour was asking Sutton about Bain..

It didn't fit the agenda though..

Really poor on their part that..

If Rodgers was getting consistent home results in europe and had taken a couple of scalps like MON, WGS and Lennon did I think everyone would be more accepting our * away form is just part of being a Celtic fan at this point, none of our successful managers this century have managed a formula for doing well away consistently, barring the Seville season.

Rodgers problem is we've been * at home as well as away a lot of the time in europe, and the away performances have been some of our worst historically. If we were to win at home against Leipzig it would be a major step forward with Rosenborg away next knowing that we've got a result there in the past.

I think we should be realistic enough to realise we could go all the way in the Europa. A bit of luck and a couple of good ties and it is possible. Just feels at times we are never lucky in Europe. But we need to set our squad out in a better tactical formation to compete with a higher standard of Euro opponents like the Milan’s or mid German teams. We should be more than capable of rising well above Scandinavians and teams from Croatia or Belgium etc. But I believe our Achilles tends to be inability to keep a core strong squad together for a few seasons. We keep dismantling every time we get decent offers and it is detrimental to competing at top level but it’s the nature of our position in the game and to a bigger extent geographically.

Deffo. German /Belgium and even Ukrainian/Russian teams do that so well.

Virtually every team lose a big player every year though. It is and will continue to be stubbornness/tactics that are the problem.

Virtually every team reinvests the funds from the sale of that player on other player(s).

    Fundamental difference.

That is not true. Most premier league teams do because they get £100 million if they come last. We don't. Go into the championship and that is not the case. Most teams get by on selling players.
We could do better in Europe, we have to look for cheap stars in other countries. Is Eddy the only player under Rodgers to join us outside of a British club?

Playing with a ‘shut-up’ shop mentality can only take you so far..

If he was to get us playing possession football with swift counter attacks, we may be able to achieve more than nullifying the opposition.(defensively we must improve tho)

We don’t have the personnel at the moment, not a GK, RB, DM or ST.. but if and it’s big if we recruit well, we and BR could achieve success, in relative terms in Europe.

Most teams in the Championship do not get by, by selling players.

    And no; Kouassi, Izzy, Marv.

Going for our 7th straight trophy next month let that sink in,If we then add 8th and 9th it will never ever be beaten or seen again these are special times.

Also forgot what it feels like to even lose 1 old firm game Brendan has it on lock.

Domestically there is one word i would use to describe a Rodgers team ...Relentless.
He will stay till the trophies dry up but not sure when that will be.

Yeah them selling players is a big part of them getting by. Not for all, some have big backers, but a lot of them. When they sell a player for 15m they often dont reinvest into buying players. The ones who do stop after a couple of seasons if promotion doesn't happen.

Not gonna turn this into another pointless discussion on is BR being backed sufficiently financially as the wage bill proves it, we also spent 9 million quid on a striker. Most other teams also vary tactics, that is probably the fundamental difference.

Partly agree, partly disagree. He is certainly partly responsible for adding to the wage bill with some players that we aren't getting anything in return for eg. Hayes, De Vries, Gamboa, Compper etc. But he has also been lumbered with players on juicy contracts that were signed prior to his arrival eg. Bitton and Allan

We had over £33 million cash in the bank at the end of June and left the summer with a transfer surplus of over £20 million having failed to replace Armstrong, Roberts or Dembele.

I've been critical of Rodgers re his signings but that is not backing the manager. As a Double Treble winning manager he deserved better than what Lawwell and co. served up. Rodgers gave him a list of key players that were all within budget and would not have cost the world (McGinn, Piccini, Schar)

Instead Peter wanted to get his plants to crow to the press about how much we were spending on Desso pitches & LED lights and chasing loanees from Man City that the manager by all accounts did not know all that much about.

The summer was a joke and however successful we are this season it will be in spite of the board's actions rather than because of it. That shouldn't be forgotten.

    The wage bill proves what?

Are you suggesting you know better than Brendan Rodgers about setting up a football team? :56::56::56:

He's got to get at least half the dembele money in january , we could try scout for 3/4 players on the continent for 3m punts or we might just spend big on 1 player again.

BR rates Bitton who if my memory serves me has had a contract extension, on improved terms no doubt, under BR.
Just because there is a surplus at the bank this does not mean it should be spent. In fact the smart thing is to not spend it all/most of it as everyone should have cash reserves to maintain ongoing expenditure. Ie look at the wage bill that will be more or less the same this coming year.
Regarding the pitch well I believe it was BR that wanted that work done, as for the lights I seem to remember most on here blowing/boasting about them being installed, initially anyway. No doubt the hotel will also fall into this category eventually also, christ even the Celtic Way may do as well. Surely people realise that these costs are funded from somewhere and that will obviously have an effect elsewhere. The benefit of hindsight is a wonderful thing though I suppose.

Demonstrates he is being backed, it's pretty simple really.

No, but I never said that did I. Perhaps you should re-read what I posted.
You do seem to make a habit of making some pretty outlandish assumptions, must be something in the water I guess :)
