I get that is the opinion but he has my backing on that every * in Scottish media and out with our support had the headline "Celtic dominance is over" ready for the morning redtops they have been at it since slippy turned up in Govan!

Good post lad. Not in full agreement but basically on the "split silos" sentiment of your post I agree.

I am probably talking from the HEART here but we are Celtic Football Club. In the modern world to appeal to people you need to do well in Europe. Our history also tells us that's what we should be doing/striving to do.

For me he was * in Europe for Liverpool (personally from an Everton background) and last year when I had a season ticket for Celtic. In Europe you need a coach with flexibility or a kind of nihilist/safety first approach. He has neither. 5 at the back vs Barcelona and debut for DDV? We where destroyed.

Look, we have done the double treble now. The only way forward for finance and prestige is Europe. Martin O'Neill managed it, lets find someone else who can.

He has shown glimpses he can do it in Europe.

None of the qualifiers against Astana, Hapoel, or Rosenborg came easy. They aren’t the worst teams in Europe by a long stretch. Granted we’d all love to be at a stage where we beat those teams with ease every time we play them..

Outside of that we’ve drawn away to Gladbach, drew twice with Many City, beat Anderlecht away and Zenit at home. We also came close to getting a point at home against last seasons semi finalists. Not quite as many results as we’d have liked but there has been signs he’s well capable of getting results in Europe. Just need some consistency.

The CL is a gangland cartel I will give you that. The rule changes on the elite top 4 finishers at the expense of national champions like ourselves / the Dutch etc are a disgrace.

Martin had some team though mate that 2000-2003 team would destroy anything in Scotland right now that team would have been top 6 EPL team at the time!

Board stood still in summer but Congerton and Brendan recruitment does need questioning.

    Good points pal.

As far as the EL goes what do you think is REALISTICALLY an aim/Our level ?

KO stages or further or to purely throw this out there even just the * groups ?

Me too. A few others have too under him, I just like to think that he’s young, has up until recently been relatively inexperienced in Europe but has learned and will get there for us.. but I do have my doubts about whether we can really play his style of football in Europe and get the results we all want.

See if our CB could concentrate and dominate out with PSG and Barca we could actually have done not to bad.

Cam you think of a coach we could Realistically sign who might do better in the EL let alone CL?

I'd love Biesla from Leeds. Used to limitations too.

He is in the middle of managing his squad through a turbulent period of big and high pressure games every few days with 1 of his 2 strikers missing, his captain out and centre halves either suspended or injured all over the camp. His decision to bench Benkovic in Germany was entirely vindicated the second Jozo came off.

The media, like Sutton, want to call it prioritising the League Cup over Europe. But those are the same guys, like Sutton, that don’t understand things like why Bain was the goalkeeper today and he was getting his ‘I’m not sure that’s the right decision’ in early so he can get his ‘I told you so’ out afterwards. Disregarding that Bain is our League Cup keeper.

The Europa League isn’t over, the next 3 games in the Group are all winnable.

They are probably out there as I do believe we have the players to be performing better than we are in Europe.. but I couldn’t tell you who they are.

This Europe thing. We're basically disappointed we're not overachieving. Also in the last 10 years we've made the last 16 of the CL once. Made the group stages 5 times (twice under Rodgers, in his first two attempts). Got the Europa League knockout stages twice, one of those under Rodgers. We now find ourselves in a group with two teams obviously a lot better than us. We're basically asking for a miracle worker.

Also the Barcelona result, as great as it was, seriously skews what Lenny did with us in Europe. First season couldn't even qualify for the EL, second season didn't get out of the group stages, 12/13 was amazing beating Barca, Spartak home and away. 13/14 was pretty disastrous, scraped through and barely put up a fight in the CL group stages. The 12/13 season in isolation looks amazing but the other seasons weren't better than what we've achieved under Rodgers in Europe. Heck last season being in Europe beyond Christmas was better than 3 of 4 Lenny seasons in Europe. This season if we somehow make it through (probably won't buy who knows) then it'll be 2 seasons better.

We can't just magically get better without improving the quality of the team, we've done absolutely nothing to improve the quality in the summer. Dembele and Roberts out, so we lost attacking quality and only ended up getting a CB in the final hour on loan. How is any manager meant to improve our European performances when he's dealing with it. I've always thought our fans have been too expectant when it comes to Europe, not just with Rodgers but for a while now. For me getting into the CL is a massive achievement, it's practically overachieving for us as it is. Europe beyond Christmas is also an excellent achievement which cannot be sniffed at.

There are ways to become more competitive in Europe, but with the way the club is doing things, it certainly won't happen the way we're doing it. Anything in Europe is a bonus for me. There's not a manager around who could do much better than Rodgers is doing. There might be a manager or two who might be able to get the odd result playing a pragmatic way, but it certainly wouldn't be a sustainable strategy.

    Cool.

Just for the * of it, when the time comes, who should be his replacement?

I refuse to speculate for 2 reasons; firstly, it’s all down to timings and who’s available but more importantly I dread the day he leaves us and don’t want to contemplate it.

On a European level, BR has been poor, but his domestic success has been nothing short of sensational, and something we may never see the like of again.

The day we lose him as our manager will be sore. What he has done in his short time here has been absolutely incredible.

Want us to come out all guns blazing in our next EL game..

We are peeerless in Scotland, Europe should always be our benchmark.. we’re defo capable of taking something from our last 3 games in the group.

He and the team have critics to silence..

Europe is so weighted against us now and is why im so indifferent to it , money for qualifying is what sustains us I know and long may it continue but the beatings are sore to watch . Home domination suffices me personally and I will never tire of trebles and anything else that is silver , Brendan here for 10 in a row !!!
