To be fair he was only a rookie manager and had inherited Mowbrays mob for the first attempt. At this point in time I would say he is a much better manager than when he took us over.

Well yeah compared to Ronny then he's not went backwards. I was more talking about the Lennon era as that was the comparison thats been flying around. It still stands for me that Lennon was better in Europe and yes domestically he wasn't as successful but he wasn't backed anywhere near as much as Rodgers has been. And the Salzburg point still stands. Rodgers is paid a fortune, I expect something similar to what their manager is doing.

Defo and I'd take him back if need be, but it would be a step-down, no doubt.

Enlighten me, how can be compete with the Red Bull clubs?

And both Lenny and BR haven't been backed as they should have and both brought in some absolute dross too..

Lenny gets dispensation for inheriting Mowbrays squad, but people are quick to forget BRs transformation of Ronny's..

I take it you're oblivious to Salzburg and how much they cost to put together. What is it you expect us to do in Europe btw? Champions League, can't compete, Europa can't compete. Where can we compete then? It's just a fact Rodgers has been backed to the tune of many more millions than Lennon. Yes they have both bought dross and what? Lennon performed better in Europe, that was the point for discussion. If you disagree, fire away. If you're happy with Rodgers in Europe, fire away.

Not sure if this is correct, but I'm positive I read this on here, but Salzberg's team cost less than ours. In that case maybe the question should be how do they compete with us ?

Brendan is who he is. It's been 2 and a half years, he's clearly not going to change his philosophy. We are not going to punch above our weight in Europe under him.

For me what it comes down to is backing him. He wants to build something here, so that our overall level increases and that is worth a few sore European defeats in the short term (not that this actually was a sore one, mind; just that we have had a few under him).

However, if you aren't going to back him (and I would argue that we haven't), then there is a case to be made for a change to someone more pragmatic. To pick two examples, I am sure that both Clarke and Lenny would win the league and set us up more pragmatically in Europe (they are also two * good managers in their own right).

But that would actually be short-sighted. Right now we are lucky enough to have Brendan, how often will we have a manager of this calibre? So surely the sensible thing is to back him while we have him and see where he can take us.
I'm not anti-Lawwell, but he needs to see that having Brendan and his team here represents a unique investment opportunity and invest more in the playing staff than he ordinarily would. I'm in favour of Lenny being next when Brendan goes; but I really hope that is a while away yet.

    Get him backed this January!

    Here the whole time
I responded to your post with a head scratch as I didn't understand why you had retorted to mine in the manner you did.

I didn't have a go at Rodgers anywhere in my original post but you jumped on some sort of defensive, almost like you were putting words in my mouth. Hence the :43:.

No, not as big a fan as some are but I am not " wishing for" anything.

Aye I am oblivious, that's why I said enlighten me?

Players are brought in by Red Bull and if are any good moved onto to Red Bull in Germany.. the point is they're backed by Red Bull.. sign for Salzburg if any good moved on to Germany.

Never the less I expect us to compete in the EL and win our next game and we're back in the mix. If you want to throw in the towel fire away. Hopefully we will be close to full strength when we play again.

Bit different inheriting a poisoned squad that got pumped 4-0 off St Mirren than inheriting a team already on its fifth straight league win.

Id happily back Rodgers if we were getting value for money and the right signings.
    Currently we are not.
Our scouting is shocking and Congerton is a charlatan.
If I was Lawell I wouldn’t write Rodgers a blank cheque as so far he and Congerton have shown they can’t be trusted to spend money wisely.
That’s the difference between us and the Red Bull clubs - scouting and getting value for money.
We are failing miserably at both since Rodgers came in.

Salzburg’s whole team cost less than Edouard.

Very true. We have short memories when things aren’t going as we think they should.
I’d say we are all guilty of this to some degree.
Those first few months of Rodgers being here were amazing I don’t think anyone would argue, the feel good factor was at an all time high after the season before and the football on display and the passion in the stands were just what we all needed.
That’s all gone now and it’s easily forgotten.

But looking back doesnt help us move forward and may even be detrimental at times as it leads to current problems not being corrected just made again and again hoping things come full circle.

A wage bill of what, £57/58 million shows he is being backed RR.
