WHO can replace Scott Brown for Celtic? Well, no one really. The Celtic captain, according to club legend Danny McGrain, is one of a kind.

But when the question is put to the iconic full-back of who is best-placed to lead the Celtic team in Brown’s absence, there is barely a moment’s hesitation before the response comes across loud and clear.

“Kieran Tierney,” McGrain replies. “I think Kieran has got the aptitude to lead.

“He’s so keen and so eager, he’s a supporter of the club too.

Callum McGregor has been great too. He’s played outside left, left midfield and all over the park. It depends what you are looking for in a captain.

“Broony is Broony, he’s a one-off. You can’t fill that role, it is unfillable. [But] Kieran is the first one I would think of.

“Broony gave the armband to Mikael Lustig at the weekend, but I don’t know if maybe he was just the first person that Broony saw! Broony must have thought that he wasn’t walking away over to Tierney.

"Tierney for me has got all the ingredients to be a captain, and he’s only 21, which is great.

I can’t think of anyone else that would be better, and that’s no disrespect to the other players.

“It’s hard to replace somebody like Broony, but I think Kieran has the stature to do that long-term.

“He’s captured the supporters’ hearts. He’s a great guy and a good player. He is determined, and that comes out to the supporters, who love him.

“He’s shown that to the fans without even trying. His energy when he first came in was amazing, and he’s still doing it.

    “He’s only 21, I was still doing it when I was 31!”

McGrain says that Tierney returning to Hampden to lift the Scottish Cup in 2017 after being at hospital for treatment to a broken jaw shows that he is officer material.

“He was still concussed when he did that I think,” laughed McGrain. “But no, he knew what he was doing.

“You don’t get to many Scottish Cup finals, nobody in Scottish football does.

As fantastic as he is, he really needs to improve his composure in European games. Constantly looks rushed on the ball, and his lack of a right foot doesn't help.

I'm sure he will but it's been a problem for a couple of seasons now.

He has the legs on most he comes up against, it’s just finding that final 3rd composure at the top level.. like at Anderlecht..

He does look a bit uncomfortable on the ball in europe. Boyata actually the most composed in the backline. KT passes the ball back to him like a hot potato at times or panics and hoofs it.

He's obviously quality, just doesn't quite fully believe in himself in europe yet I think. Understandable to be fair, especially away were we are constantly conceding cheap goals.

KIERAN TIERNEY refused to look for any excuses for the reasons an under-strength Celtic lost in Germany to RB Leipzig.

Brendan Rodgers was without several key players for the game including captain Scott Brown, who the 21-year-old deputised for in the 2-0 defeat.

That’s now 44 group games Celtic have played in European football since 2001 and they have won just twice. It's a dismal record.

And while Tierney could have blamed the absence of Tom Rogic and James Forrest among others on this latest difficult evening, he wasn’t at all interested in going down that road.

He said: “We had players missing but there are no excuses. The team that was out there had quality in every position. It’s not that it was a second team although it wasn’t obviously full strength.

“The 10/15 minutes when we switched off really cost us. And back in Glasgow, we’ll need to make less errors in the game.

“At this level, there are going to be mistakes. It’s just that they took their chances well tonight.”

It was a familiar story. Celtic were in the game and playing some good football, but lost concentration and then a second goal within a couple of minutes.

Leipzig are strong favourite to finish at least second. Celtic need to get back to the days when Parkhead was one of the most difficult stadiums in Europe for even the best teams to get a win.

Tierney said: “They were very good. We know it’s going to be a tough game in a couple of weeks’ time. There will be a big crowd behind us as well which is always great. It’s another European night at Celtic Park and we know the crowd will be right behind us.

“I’d like to thank every single one of them who came to Germany and made noise for 90 minutes no matter the score and how we were playing.”

was so bad last night, caught out of position all night, caught on his heels all night whenever a pass was played to him. takes to many touches when on the ball and takes too long to decide what to do with it. looked slow and heavy legged all night.

to be fair he has been like this most of the season

Thought he did well, especially defensively, going forward though his final ball is so poor at the moment.

More down to teams pressing better in europe ,up against faster better players ,also poor decision making before he gets the pass gives him less time on the ball ,poor first touches before he recieves the ball gives less time ,so its more than just kt thats the problem tbh .
