Don’t necessarily agree with this. His stubbornness not to change things is not portraying him in good light. He had a poor record in Europe with Liverpool too. A great manager would recognise this and change.
Reminds me of Melchet from Blackadder goes forth. “We will charge at the enemy because it’s the last thing they will expect having done it the last 17 times...”
How I long for a solid defensive performance in Europe a la shutting out AC Milan for 180+ mins. And that was with big mick and heid! Against Kaka and Ceedorf etc.
As well as sorting defense out, id like to see a target man brought in who can lead line and b an out ball as Eddy isn’t it.

The European failings absolutely do matter, but with the best will in the world, even Lennon could only do so much. He had that one great European night against Barca. Deila had one against Inter Milan. Rodgers had his one with Man City.

Anyone questioning our progression under Rodgers need to ask themselves where would we be without him?

Deila didn't fair better in Europe really.

Lenny perhaps done better in Europe but didn't give us as much domestic success

    Mowbray - no explanation needed

Strachan - did very well but the European landscape has changed even since his day

And look at other options we been linked to in recent years. Moyes or Keane - Brendan is head and shoulders above either of them.

He just needs some financial backing, he will improve our European standing.

Lenny beat barca, got our first away win in the group stage and qualified for the last 16 with a win at home. Add the karagandy home game and the home win against Ajax and I think he had a bit more than just one good night.

Several expectations need to be managed, in here.

Doesn’t fit the narrative. Neither does his 6-1 defeat to Barca or the 4 nil loss to Utrecht.

Thats the boards target, qualify every other year and use the Europa as back up. This year especially with players away at the World Cup we needed signings, but never happened and it finally bit us oan the *.

After the Man City game a couple of years ago I thought we might have a slim chance of doing something in Europe with him but pretty much accepted we’ll never do anything at this point, far too passive in European games and I’m tired of watching the same old story every time same old defensive errors and inability to retain possession.

It’s not a unique problem to this celtic side as we’ve been the same under previous managers but we’ve shown no improvement which I hoped we would do.

As does our squad, the size of it and bloated wage bill is an absolute riot!

I'll be honest and say i'm surprised at some of the reactions in here. Was it disappointing to lose? Of course, and especially to two goals where our defence could be doing better.

Thing is, we're missing Rogic, Forrest, Benkovic, Mulumbu, Brown and Griffiths, and i could see at least 4 of those starting usually. With boyata out of the semi i think he made the right choice with resting benkovic, albeit an injury to simunovic puts us in a similar situation with hendry most likely to start. On another note, Leipzig finished second in the bundesliga last year for a reason, they're an excellent team who might even be favourites for this whole competition. This isn't me trying to excuse the result, as i agree they were there for the taking, but a little perspective is needed..
(I do agree with the consensus of Europe as a whole however, we should be doing a lot better in general and there's still a bit of sting from how poor we were against salzburg and it's disappointing to see us not reach a level we easily could)

    Under Rodgers

    Domestically - Perfection

    In Europe - Shambles

Rodgers is a fantastic coach and manager. He’s the best we can ask for. But at European level he’s not taken the club forward, he can’t set the team up properly, no plan to get the team up the pitch, doesn’t seem to be getting the players motivated or to believe in themselves.

If Rodgers is the best we can ask for, what do you expect another manager to do away from home, in Europe?

Qualification is a bit of a lottery, however you have to give yourself the best possible chance and we didn’t do that..

For me we are going through the motions as a football club and need new direction and energy at the top..

It really is not. We dont have the quality to go toe to toe away from home in Europe. Its simple. We adapt our style in that case then. Brendans been to stubborn to do it or incapable of doing so.

Well fell short in the league so didn’t put us in the position, then failed in CL and then EL in the same season..

Look I love Lenny but it was a very mixed bag under him..
