Us and Villa have the same offer.

Can blame Lawwell all you want but it’s McGinn’s choice. Us or Villa, money or trophies and European football.

    Our fault though...

This is 100% Celtic’s fault literally whatever way you slice it.

I don’t really think he’d improve the team but pursuing a homegrown player for basically a year then waiting til he’s European cup tied and slapping in derisory offers is pointless and stupid. We splashed out on Eddy but this is more penny pinching, undoubtedly.

Dont think any the offers we made were derisory. I am not his biggest fan though.

This is my feeling. I’m not really moved up or down by McGinn, but if Brendan wanted him then we should have signed him.

I felt the same about Fletcher way back when - I didn’t think he was a player who would have improved us (and his career proved me right), but we did need A player and penny pinching cost us the league that season. Lawwell should have got his jotters then

Heard all sorts. Some more recent saying 2.7M. If we held it up for the sake of 700K it does seem a bit daft but the media was suggesting that Hibs were holding out for 4M, that would have been mental for a guy at Hibs who had 1 year on his deal and was Celtic daft/family lineage and could sign for free in 6 month and wouldnt be a starter and isnt remotely handsome enough to play for Celtic.

Villa are paying 100K more than our highest offer. We never met his valuation, especially considering a player normally costs more to a league rival than a team in a different country

Fact is Brendan identified McGinn as a target months ago, Lawwell then lowballed offers all summer until someone else came in and paid a fair price for him.

McGinn never had the chance to come here. If he did Lawwell would have probably tried to pay his wages in Celtic shop vouchers.

Think that was our board's main hope all along. Bidding low offers to try and drag it out, then get that sweet free transfer they love so dearly. Seems like it has backfired this time. I'm nowhere near the McGinn fan a lot of members are, but my main worry is that it will anger Rodgers a lot.

We could have tried actually out-bidding them if we wanted him so much.

Looking very much like the McGinn is Villa bound If the deal, mainly because Celtic won’t match the wages in the Championship as both clubs have agreed the same fee. If it wasn’t for the wage gulf Celtic would never be beaten by Villa.

Thing is I am not bothered about mcginn but the implications with BR are huge and if BR wanted him then it should have been done. It is quite scary that BR has had to call the board out a bit. I thought itd definitely be different with him here, its this kind of thing that will see him leave.

Surely the board realises there will be riots if they * off Brendan and forced him out.
