No they don’t, the clubs offering the money have all the power.

I'm not blaming him but don't say you're heartbroken about something that's in your control..

How exactly is Celtic offering him a contract in his control?

Lets look at it, wee fannied about and * the deal, he knocks back Burnley and goes nae bother I’ll wait out 18 months of my contract for Celtic to come in for me, cos WGS the manager at the time promised.

Then Mowbray comes in and gets the sack, then Lenny. How is it in his control if those managers want him?

How could he make it happen?

We put in a very good bid at the time for him. They wouldn't sell. Accepted a bid down south. Could've sworn he didn't only have a year on his contract or that either (could be wrong?)..

He literally has no say then..

A player can easily run down his contract but I get why it wouldn't suit all involved to do it..

Money means more to most players than playing for us, that's just life.. but say it like it really is..

Of course he does just because clubs agree a fee isn't the end of it only the start

I don't think the way this is playing out suits any of the parties involved. Celtic should just go and sign the boy if they like him as a player. If the price is £4million then pay it. He'll be worth it in the long run.

So if someone bids 4 mill for me and it's rejected with the intention of no selling to the bidding club...but then player get's a bid accepted from England for less....he's in the driving seat?

So if i had a 4 year contract and my club wouldn't sell me to Celtic for example. I'm in the driving seat because I'll just wait the 4 year's knowing I 'could possibly' then get that move?

I worked with his cousin and when I asked about him he told me he was desperate to come to us as well.

Think every Celtic manager would have taken him so it's just a matter of time.. unrealistic to expect him to wait but he didn't the timing maybe wasn't right for him..

    Like I say it's a short career..

McGinn is willing to let his contract run down to get the move to the club he loves that's the difference for me..

If for example a Club from China cones in and offers double the English club are you forced to play in China?

No * chance would I be paying that for him, Petrie is coming the *. And I know we got £7 million for Armstrong but that’s a whole different market.

It wasn't in China though. Was about 3 hour's down the road..

If said player wants move and selling club don't want to sell to the club the player ideally wants to go to, then what more can he do when under contract for another year/year and a half?

Happens a lot where club's don't want to sell their player's to a team in the same league or 'rival's'..

Waiting 6 month's when you know the club aren't desperate and are happy to wait is one thing..

Waiting over a year when you know the club were desperate to bring you in in that January window and likely wouldn't wait, is another..

Aye I'm not saying it would be an ideal scenario for anyone, but on Fletcher it seemed to me he was happy to move and take the cash and then he had what 4 subsequent moves in England, where he would be on a higher wage than we would pay..

So say it as it is..

If Armstrong is worth £7million then John McGinn is easily worth £4million. So by that rationale Celtic were 'coming the *' when they sold Armstrong. Hibernian aren't doing anything wrong here that I can see.

I know what you’re saying mate, I really do but it’s a gamble and I think we gamble too much.

I don’t like the well you want to be here so we don’t need to show any effort. We done the exact same thing to the likes of Jackie McNamara, it just doesn’t sit well with me.

We could do that with loads of player's though..

McCarthy was desperate to come here. Massive Tim..

For different reason's to Fletcher. We didn't want him, unlike Fletcher..

He's gone on to earn a fortune down in England at a couple of club's and he and we would probably have loved to get him up but he's well out of our price range. Same happened with Fletcher in his prime down here..

A player is worth whatever the buying club deems him to be worth, I certainly don't think Armstrong was worth £7 million but Southampton did.

Simply because Celtic might have done well out of a previous sale doesn't mean we should skew the value of all future buys on that basis.

If Hibs crash out of the Europa and the English window closes without any bids then they will be the ones approaching us. It's a game of chess and they're down to their last few pieces in my opinion.

I think on this occasion it suits Hibs to have it out in the open, most of the time we wouldn't know what negotiations had taken place before hand. It must be quite common... Hibs are playing a risky game with a player in the last year..

I wanted him this time last season and would have paid £3m -£4m then.. not now tho, makes no financial sense..

What would you pay now mate?
