Going forward we are * awesome at times, but Rodgers has to get this defence sorted, he absolutely has to. Our forwards aren't always going to be able to bail us out and if Edouard picks up a knock we're * because there's no way we're keeping clean sheets against the better sides as we progress through these qualifiers.

Brendan Rodgers speaking to the media: “It was very good, a real good attacking performance. It was a real demonstration of their maturity and staying calm under that bit of pressure."

BR: "We tried to work the same way we had done throughout pre-season without changing so much at this early stage. That’s worked very well for us when Moussa’s played, so we just tried to a do a similar thing by putting James up there."

BR: “Ok, we started the game alright, but we weren’t as offensive and we couldn’t press the game as much as we wanted to. I wasn’t overly happy with the shape of the team in the first 20-25 minutes and that was my fault."

BR: "We just adapted it & went to a cleaner shape which the players know, and then we could press the game better and attack from a much better base and in the last 20-25 minutes of the first half & the rest of second half, the players were absolutely magnificent."

BR: "By the end, we could’ve had five or six goals. I sat here 0-0 last year, happy but felt we could’ve been better. Tonight I sit in a much better place, in how we played & with a two-goal advantage, but we know it’s going to be another a tough game over there.”

BR: "We tried to play Jamesy on the inside, but we couldn’t quite get him onto the ball. The fluency was better, but also, very importantly, how we pressed – we were able to cover the spaces much better & have more aggression in our game. That’s the base for us."

BR: "We have to run like * to get the ball and fight. Once we do that then the quality comes through. We scored three very good goals and could’ve had a few more.”

BR: "For me, it was a joy to watch the team this evening, and not just the good stuff, but dealing with the adversity in the game. It’s not always clean and pure and scoring five or six goals."

BR: "You judge your team as well when they were down and they were absolutely fantastic in that this evening, and they showed a mentality to win the game well.”

BR on @Oedouard22: "He’s a class player. He’s shown that from the first day he walked in the building. The first goal looks so simple but you watch again and you see his movement just to create the space and then pass it

BR: “The 2nd goal, he times his run perfectly. The full-back keeps him onside. The mark of top strikers is to have that confidence on the big occasion and for him to show that calmness under pressure was brilliant.”

Slept in and missed the fist 20, couldn't for the life of me make out the shape. Could see KT central, Gamboa high right, Sinclair, Forrest, McGregor, was baffling :39:

Fair play admitting his mistake, was bizarre how he had forrest and mcgregor playing in each others positions

Congerton is head of recruitment,Lawwell has to seal the deals, Brendan's job is to manage obviously the odd player will be sounded out by him like Sinclair was but we seem to have a good relationship with Man City to get players into the club too , Ntcham ,Roberts possibly Arzani and other top clubs like PSG for Edouard.

Could see clearly the mistake he made bringing Forrest in and pushing Calum wide.

It clicked almost instantly after changing it back to the way it should be.

Was annoying first 20 as it looked bizzare but I'll always say, making mistakes and still getting the job done is a good quality to have.....as we saw away in Israel..

Worst 90 of my life that was though :56:

Why is he talking like he is a head coach now? He made some strange comments about our transfer dealings yesterday. Is he just putting pressure on the board?

Sounds like it tbh he's quite right imo he's obviously identified targets and the board are dragging their heels.

His ability and willingness to make game-changing decisions is a huge asset.

We need to sort the defence now; it’s our only real weakness at this level.

Yes he made a mistake with the shape of the team that started, but he held his hands up and after that we were superb. And I do think he is putting the pressure on the board, that said we don’t have any clue what type of targets Congerton is coming back with, they could be on massive wages or command massive fees.

This model has to change, then. It seems the manager has no say in signings.

Almost feel like we are going to analyse EVERYTHING he says now, but at 3:29 does he say "we tried to play the same shape as WHEN Moussa WAS here" ?

It won't, this is now far to common place in majority of football clubs
