    all of them

    • Celtic: Appearances in UEFA Champions League: 33
    • Athens: Appearances in UEFA Champions League: 15
Only a handful more teams in the world have been involved in more champions leagues than us. I think some on here imagine us going over there to a 60k packed stadium full of flares but the reality is that greek football took a turn for the worst ages ago and they average 12k in a 70k seater stadium, hardy intimidating.

I know how many times we've played in it.

That's not what I was getting at with my post. We aren't a champions league quality side.

You said they were at Europa standard...well so are we.

I just never see us as a 'champions league' side though. That is for those who are there regularly, season after season, winning games.

It's nothing to do with me looking down on us. I think we have a good team, but one that would fair better in the long run (in footballing terms) in the Europa. I think that is a more than fair assessment when taking the green specs off.

There's a difference between being in the champions league and being defined as champions league quality, I don't think we are there yet in terms of the latter.

Christos Albanis and Marko Livaja seem to be their most prolific goalscorers (18 goals in 64 league appearances for Apollon Smyrnis and 8 goals in 27 league appearances for AEK Athens, respectively).

Aye, theres no doubt we are only in the CL to make the numbers up but so are Olympiacos, Anderlecht, Basel, Salzburg, Ajax etc we're decent enough, in terms of the lesser CL teams we are one of the best - at least a level or two above teams like Molde, Rosenborg, Malmo, Dinamo Zagreb, Legia and those other teams who are lucky to draw a single match in the Group Stages.

Yeah I know what you mean.

I'm just naturally pessimistic because I know these sides can hurt us. The gap in quality isn't big enough for us not to play to a good level and still get through.

Hopefully get some additions to the defence soon. Which would help.

They are a defensive side who have lost the backbone of their defence and their manager, going into their first competitive game at Celtic Park against Rodgers, with Dembele, Edouard, Rogic, Forrest and McGregor hopefully flying on all cylinders. Need to get both them and Rosenborg pumped in the home leg

    Absolutely spot on.

Even if we qualify for the group stages again, our squad isn't one of the 32 best in Europe.

I don't get why everyone is * themselves when 99.9% of us have never seen them play or know who any of their players are?

40 million to play for. The highest stakes Celtic have ever played for.

    It's natural.

Some people are overly confident, some are overly pessimistic.

It's been like this every year since we first began these qualifiers. They are cup finals, each time, anything can happen.

That’s fair comment mate, we will just have to wait and see. All attention should turn towards Wednesday night now anyway.

They’ve lost their manager, best defender, best midfielder and best striker and will play their first competitive game against us, we should be beating them over two legs

It just seems daft to say they're the hardest draw possible and panic when most of us dont have a clue about them and they've not played a game this season.

I mean they might be the hardest but it's not like we've drawn Bayern.

Puts things into perspective though, if we get beat over 2 legs by a team averaging 12k attendances that spent less than 1m in transfers last season and only 1.5m this season then it's quite embarrassing.
