Don't think anyone hates lustig and we all know he's been a great servant but the reason he isn't doing as well for us is because the style we play. He's not the kind of right back Rodgers wants.

Even if we ignore what he's recently achieved with us....

First choice right back in his national team who have beaten Netherlands to a place in the play offs for the world cup. Eliminated Italy on the way to the world cup and then topped a group consisting of Germany and Mexico.

Let's just wait and see what Brendan thinks eh?

Boyata also may have played 50% of a World Cup winning sides games next week.. It says more about the achievement as a collective, rather than the player itself.

Toivonen has played every game, wouldn't have him in our team. Sebastian Larsson has played every game, wouldn't have him near our team 5 years ago.

Rodgers will not be taking the past month into consideration when considering if Lustig is good enough for Celtic that decision has been made over the past 24 months, watching him every Saturday, watching him train everyday.

Wit? Lustig has been one of Rodgers favourites and a first pick since he arrived.

You're naming players we couldn't care about.

Lustig is our player and has served us well.

The manager knows better than us (the fans) thankfully or Brown, to name one, would not have been allowed back in the team after a couple of seasons ago because a lot of idiots who know nothing thought he was finished.

He's been a part of a winning treble that concluded not even two months ago and is in the quarters of the world cup.

Maybe he's not as bad as some fans think?

It goes to show that you don't have to be particularly * hot to achieve what you are using as a point to highlight how much you clearly rate Lustig.

I don't think I have ever seen a Celtic fan label Lustig as a bad player, simply highlighting that his best days as a Celtic player are behind him. Lustig could play until he drops and be good enough at SPL level, doesn't mean we shouldn't be looking to improve and put plans into action.

Yeah but something's happened with gamboa or he doesn't rate him. Lustig isn't a bad player at all, but you honestly think lustig suits the style of play Rodgers wants?

Think he's doing not too badly on the biggest stage of all.

He's a defender, end of, and maybe we should utilise that a bit more and it might help with the 5, 6, 7 scorelines we're getting hit with in Europe.

He isn't just a defender though..

A right back at Celtic should always be able to offer more than just defending, and Lustig has. He used to bomb up much more regularly and had a fairly impressive delivery in my opinion..

Then Rodgers saw that his legs were gone and would have him come in as a back 3, which worked well..

Last season he was getting skinned far too regularly well out of position and couldn't get near his man. Legs well and truly gone and his confidence for the first time since his first 6 month's at us, shot to pieces..

We aren't gonna be a team (under Rodgers anyway) that just parks the bus and stays tight with the back 4, like Sweden, where he seems a bit more comfortable and protected....although I've seen him caught out numerous time's in team this tournament as well..

He's definitely no a bad player or was ever *. His legs and possibly injuries have caught up with him. Any slide tackle 50/50 and he's down waving his arm's in the air and you're thinking he's * these day's. Done it last game and few time's for us last season..

We absolutely should be replacing him but he's a leader, character and a good backup player to have around still..

Pretty good summation. If you think back to the Spartak away game in 2012/13 he had pushed right up into their half, Wanyama won the ball and Lustig takes the pass and drives forward before playing a ball into Hooper for the opening goal.

Just now if Lustig receives a ball out wide his last thought is taking a man on, 99 times out of 100 the balls getting passed back to a centre back.

    100%..

It's in his mind from the off now..

1 of the best crossers of a ball we had in my opinion. Absolute pin pointers..

Moussa 5-1 home game is just 1 example straight off my head. Couldn't get it on a plate anymore..

Izzy's crossing was lauded, but I think Lustig's was significantly better..

In the last Sweden match he pinged an inch-perfect cross over to a boy in the 6 yard box who then made a complete mess of it.

He’s the exact type of RB that Rodgers wants, hence him playing guys like Hendry and Ralston there as well, somebody who can tuck in and easily make it a back three, providing a load of cover and balance to get Kieran Tierney as far up the pitch as possible.

Our right back always tucks in when that happens and plays as a sort of auxiallary CB.

You genuinely think he's the exact type of RB Rodgers wants?

IMO he isn't, he wants a fullback/wingback who can bomb up and down. Lustig is not that, Hendry plays there for cover and a lack of options, he's seen as a CB mainly (I hope) and Ralston is a RB with potential, we were hoping he was the RB to Tierney at LB but doesn't look like that so far.

We were looking at signing Odubajo, which for one reason or another we didn't sign but he is the complete opposite to Lustig's style of play. Gamboa was completely different also, they are pacey full backs who can attack. If his ideal player was Lustig we'd have signed a RB more to that style.

Nothing against Lustig, I think he's a great player and has been for use for a long time, just don't think he will be the main RB when we sign what BR wants.

Guarenteed, he does want that option at times hence the signing of somebody like Gamboa but he wants to get the best out of the attacking qualities of Kieran Tierney, which is why we play the way we do and why every right back we’ve had is in that mould with the exception of Gamboa - who was quickly put out to pasture.

As far as I know btw, and I’ve no reason to disbelieve this bit of info cos its off the guy that gives me the line up every week and some spot on transfer news every now and then, Hendry was signed in the hope that he could become Lustig’s eventual replacement. Think that’s probably changed now judging by by this transfer window.

Fair enough you might be right. I'm hoping we can sign someone of similar qualities to Tierney on the right hand side, obviously not exact because that would be difficult. Someone who is a solid defender which is how I see lustig, but also can bomb forward and give a decent delivery.
