He said when he signed we were a stepping stone to England.

    Good * riddance.

Yes I am a bit gutted to see him go tbh. Think he was an excellent player on his day and a good replacement when any of our middle 3 were injured. Hope he goes onto have a good career but he'll never play for a club bigger than Celtic and when he is retired and he sits back and reflects even though he'll have made more money than he would of at Celtic I wholeheartedly believe he'll regret it. Celtic give you something money can't buy plus the * would still been minted had he stayed at us hahaha

and England is a stepping stone to obscurity. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up with the zombies in 3 or 4 years

I think some of the posters are being a wee bit harsh on him .
He was a decent player who was good on occasions and has moved on to a bigger pay packet .
In all honesty there are maybe only three or four players in the team who would not move on in an instant for a substantial increase in their salary , sad but probably true .

    Let the people sing
Every single 'fan' who wants to have a pop at him for using us as a stepping stone or his heart not being in it or whatever should just try and put yourself in the his shoes. He can go down there and maybe get what, 40/50 k p/w. Perform well for a season or two and maybe get another move and a bigger wage. It can be a short career so every footballer wants as much as they can get and as quick as they can. Nowt wrong with that.
Thanks Stu, and all the best.

I'd honestly be very surprised if he starts for them in the Premier League. I'm wondering if this is a signing for when they get relegated next season :56:

Would like him to stay but good money for a player who's far from first choice.

As long as there will be investment back into the team (a top CB) then even better

So i'm a 'fan' for thinking he's a bit of a * for using us as a stepping stone to a more lucrative league? If i was in his shoes - being a 'fan' of the club - i'd like to think i'd stay here and take the new improved contract offered instead of signing for a team who i won't get a game for and then play a season of Championship football before being sold to Sheffield Wednesday or Scunthorpe United and bounced around the Championship like Rhodes, McCormack and Fletcher.
What a wonderful career to have.

I'm not too gutted about Armstrong leaving, but I'll always feel a tinge of sadness whenever a player who contributed well to Celtic moves on.

Armstrong started off decent under Deila - scored against Inter in the EL and forced an OG - but eventually faded due to being played out on the left for some bizarre reason. His goal against Motherwell in Deila's last game gave me the idea that Armstrong might still turn out good for Celtic.

Then as the song goes, Brendan played him at CM and he was absolutely incredible during the Invincible season. His dynamism brought something different to the midfield and, don't forget, it was Armstrong who got us back in the SC final against Aberdeen right after we had conceded. Became a Scotland international in the process and hopefully Armstrong will be a key part of Scotland's midfield for years to come.

The contract situation last year was unfortunate and, along with his fitness issues, was one of the reasons I felt Armstrong's form was poor last season. I also felt that it was Armstrong in particular who BR had a pop at for not being Champions League quality as his performances in Europe were left wanting. Missed a golden chance against Bayern as well.

However I have a lot of time for Stuart Armstrong and he goes with my best wishes and a fond farewell. Hope he does well at Southampton.

HIS HAIR IS FINE, HE SCORES BELTERS ALL THE TIME, THAT'S WHY WE SING THIS SONG, FOR STUART ARMSTRONG!

He had a purple patch of 6 months in a 3 and a half year spell at us and basically downed tools last year after we gave him an extension. The home match v Anderlecht and 0-0 game v Sevco on 30th December stick out as 2 absolute shockers.

The last part is simply not true, we have many players at us who see the bigger picture and signed with us for the good of their development rather than making a quick buck. Dembele, Edouard, Ntcham, Rogic, Tierney, Broony could all probably get more money elsewhere. Ajer was reportedly being scouted by Dortmund too, who would also be able to trump us in wage terms as well.

People love making excuses for Armstrong's behaviour. Given that the 6 months at the end of 2016/17 season was the first real return he had given us, you'd think he would have at least had the humility to sign a longer term deal that ensured we were adequately recompensed when he left. Of course it's his right not to do that and look after himself but in doing so he forfeits quite a bit of respect.

Good bit of business... He wasn't a starter for us last season. He wasn't what we needed in Europe. He was a good servant to the club, had a dip in form when his head was turned by transfer rumours but we have better midfielders and got a decent fee for a squad player. I'd like to see him do well. Curious to see whether kouassi will get more playing time or will we replace with a like for like box to box midfielder

We paid him a wage. We put him in the shop window. He gave us a good 6 months. We owe Southampton for paying us silly money more than we owe him. So who do I wish all the best Southampton or Armstrong?

They'll both flop, then again, McArthur who wouldn't get near this Celtic side.....is a starring 10 in that league..

Thanks the bank of Southampton. 7 mill :56:

Sold a squad midfielder, with a year left and it's pretty much paid the Edouard signing...

I think I know who got the best deal out of this..

As others have said - V good on his day, inconsistent and £7 million is a fair price.

Best of luck to him... he'll need it!

If I had a choice between Armstrong and Rogic to sign a new deal I’d have picked Rogic, so can’t complain too much the Stuart is away.

Best of luck to him and look forward to seeing him in a Scotland shirt again.

Me too mate. His attitude stunk, as far as I'm aware and I'm more than happy with the fee involved.

Hit a 6 month bit of form and thought he was the bollocks. It's really that simple..

That wee nauseating clique of misery(the smiling depressant Gms), * talking (Sviatchenko) and thinking they're something special (Armstrong and Sviatchenko) has officially been cleansed..
