Ridiculous comparison. You can genuinely compare Portugal to Argentina though, I'd argue Argentina is better but they're not too far off each other. Both with extraordinary players, one who showed up in the big games at Euro 2016 and the other who missed a penalty and completely bottled Copa America in 2016 and decided he wanted to retire. Messi had 3 finals in a row to win an international tournament and failed on each occasion. While Ronaldo not only got Portugal to the final but showed insane leadership to inspire his teammates. Messi on the other hand seems to not know how to be a real leader.

If it wasn’t for that free kick, Isco was man of the match for me. Closely followed by Silva.

Wrong. Don’t attempt to use a trophy as the measurement of a player’s ability then retract the logic when it doesn’t work in your favour.

Nonsense. Messi has been a leader on a stupid number of occasions. Go YouTube it.

I know but Kristina Kardashian had very little to do with their winning it.

Good shout, Isco's improved greatly the last 12 months and he was pretty good to begin with. The Spain team has some depth, be surprising if they don't make the Semi Finals.

Even at club level Ronaldo's big game performances have been trumping Messi's for a while now. The last two CL campaigns have been insane from Ronaldo. While Messi has underperformed in quite a lot of them since the 2015 final.

Of course it's a fair measurement when the two teams the guys player for are of a similar level and one of the guys has had 3 finals in a row to win one just one, and two of those were against Chile.

Messi has never struck me as a leader at all, maybe with his bits of magic but he doesn't seem the type who can galvanise a group through his words or anything like that. When you see Portugal in training or walking out onto the pitch you see Ronaldo making sure to include everyone and act as the leader. Messi seems to have a tendency to hide.

If you think Messi hides then you don’t know football. Sorry.

Not when it mattered he didn't. At the elite level of sport it matters what you do in the massive games, not consistently against a lot of the lesser teams in La Liga. Look at Ronaldos performances vs Bayern, Juventus, Atletico over the last few seasons in the CL, his performance vs Hungary or Wales in the Euros or his performance tonight. That's performing when the pressure is at its highest and as a result it's got him a couple of CL's and a Euros to his name as well as several Ballon d'Ors. You can argue all you want when you look at it, not only the performances but the trophies and individual awards that indicate that his performances are truly exceptional.

Look there's no doubt Messi is more talented as a footballer, but that's only one part of it. You have to produce in the big moments and there's no one better than Ronaldo when it comes to the crunch. Not over the last 3 years certainly.

He doesn't hide on the pitch, he hides in terms of getting the group together, he lets others do it. Not when the ball is in play, I'm talking about before the game, after the final whistle, before extra-time and stuff like that. I rarely ever see Messi acting like Ronaldo does in those situations, especially the way Ronaldo does it for Portugal.

Ronaldo has now probably sealed the Ballon d'Or barring Messi actually helping Argentina win the world cup. That puts Ronaldo 6-5 ahead of Messi. How do people honestly explain that? To me that at least makes it a serious debate.

That's because Kristina is a preening peacock full of his own self-importance.

Messi doesn't have to prance about throwing him arms around to lead or to inspire his team-mates. I reckon Messi is much more popular among his team-mates at club and country than Kristina is.

Ok then why weren't his teammates inspired enough to beat Chile either in 2015 or 2016, yet Portugal were inspired enough to beat France in 2016?

Like I said, blinded by hatred.
