Agree, would need a manager of more quality for us to send our best youth prospect to them :brendy:

For League One? McGregor was a star at that level when he hadn’t kicked a ball for our first team.

For Jack Ross to want to bring to Sunderland to win the title, Sunderland are not an average League One side, McGregor went to a Notts County team that finished 20th - Big difference.

Sunderland currently have McGeady, Watmore and Callum McManaman who all have Premier League experience, I don't see Ross getting rid of those guys for a kid with very little experience. If he did, and played him week-in-week-out it would be a great move for the kid, just don't see it.

He wouldn’t have to get rid though. You need at least two players in each position. Johnston could be a second choice for one of their wingers. Still better than being third or fourth in line here. He could end up with 20+ starts down there if he impresses.

Well, obviously. Just saying it’s not the worst option.

    Nice.

Just looking for Freesports there and it's strange, you can get it on every other broadcaster apart from Virgin Media :43:

I don't want him to go on loan, I think he is ready to step in to the first team on a more regular basis now. If it isn't happening we can look at loaning in January, but I don't think he should be going anywhere before that.

Would loan him out to a side In prem who try to play football, don't think hes ready for us, everytime hes played he looks direct but he hasn't really impressed, think he needs to get more first team experience against seasoned pros and that comes with starts which he wont get at us. Bright future but don't think a game here or there for us next season will help as much as a full loan spell.

PROMISING young Hoops winger Mikey Johnston has been named in the Best XI for the 2018 Toulon Tournament following his impressive performances for the Scotland Under-21 team.

The 19-year-old Celtic midfielder was part of Scot Gemmill’s Scotland squad which made it to the semi-final of the annual Under-21 tournament in the south of France.

Scotland lost out 3-1 to England but Johnston scored the opening goal of the game with a wonderful individual effort which saw him dribble past three opponents before drilling the ball beyond the keeper.

Johnston’s performances over the course of the two weeks saw him selected for the team of the tournament alongside fellow Scot, and Chelsea youth player, Billy Gilmour. The Celtic winger also picked up a trophy for finishing third in the Player of the Tournament category.

Commenting on his award, Johnston said: “There were so many good young players in action at the Toulon tournament so it’s an honour to have been picked as one of the top three.

“I was obviously happy to have scored the goal against England and it’s one I’ve enjoyed watching back, but I’d like to think I offered more than just that to help the team over the course of the games."

Scotland finished top of their group thanks to a draw against Togo and victories over France and South Korea. They finished fourth overall after losing out to Turkey on penalties in the third place play-off game.

Johnston missed a chunk of the 2017/18 season due an injury and believes the games with Scotland will have given him a chance to return to full match fitness for the start of pre-season with Celtic.

“It’s been a great experience from start to finish,” he said. “We’ve played against teams that we wouldn’t normally come up against and I think I can look back and say it was important for my development.”

The teenager’s performances in the Celtic Development Squad last season impressed Brendan Rodgers and afforded him the opportunity to feature in the first-team where he made three appearances. And Johnston said he hopes to carry the momentum from the Toulon into pre-season with Celtic as he eyes a more regular place in the first-team squad.

“Now I have to use this to kick on when I go back to Celtic and also make sure I stay in Scot Gemmill’s plans for the Under-21s,” he said.
