FROM Jimmy Johnstone to Lubo Moravcik, the Hoops faithful have always held a special reverence for entertainers, those who can turn a game with a trick or a piece of skill. Tom Rogic certainly falls into this category, and the Australian internationalist’s mercurial talent to conjure up chances and goals have seen him become known as Celtic‘s ‘Wizard of Oz’.

Time and time again on the big occasion, he’s produced a moment of magic to make a telling difference, most memorably in last season’s Scottish Cup final, when his sublime solo strike in the dying seconds of the game sealed the historic Invincible Treble.

And that was why fans reacted with delight to the news one of their favourites had penned a new five-year deal just ahead of last week’s Scottish Cup final success that sealed a historic Double Treble. The appreciation is mutual.

“The support here is very special and sometimes it’s hard to describe.” Rogic told the Celtic View in an exclusive interview. “To feel so loved and wanted by the fans is all a player can really ask for. It’s my job and the players’ job to repay that.

“Now that my future’s sorted, I can focus completely on playing football and giving everything I have for the club, as I have done for the past five years. Hopefully, one day I can repay them for everything.

“In the position I play, there’s certainly a responsibility to create, whether it’s goals, assists or passes, but I just try and do my best," the midfielder continued. "The last five years I think I can look back and say I’ve done all I can. That won’t change going into the future.

“The beautiful thing about it is you always have an opportunity to create a new special moment or a new memory to look back on. Sometimes you don’t know when that’s going to be.

“We play a lot of big games here at this club. To have contributed a small part to that makes me very proud, and I’ll keep working as hard as I can to hopefully create more in the future.

“If I can give my all to the club every day in training and every time I pull on that jersey, then I can’t have any regrets and I can be quite proud of myself. I’m just striving to become better every day and hopefully I’ll enjoy many more great moments at this club.”

Although he’s been rewarded with a long-term contract and enjoyed another season of record-breaking silverware success, Rogic’s hunger to improve and win more trophies will be as strong as ever when the next campaign gets underway.

“The manager doesn’t let any complacency set in,” he said.“There’s always hunger and a desire for more – that’s what’s most important.

"We can’t rest after last season and think we’ve achieved everything. We’ve proven this season, with the trophies that we’ve already won, that it’s relentless, it does continue. There’s always going to be a next trophy.

“The manager says there are no small gains when you play for this football club. You have a responsibility every time you go out on the pitch to represent the club as best you can. I certainly have the hunger and desire in me to win more trophies.

“When you win a single trophy it's something very special, so to have won as many as I have here is another reason why I love it here and why I feel very privileged and proud to be able to represent the club. Hopefully there’s more to come.

“This is a club that players come to win trophies. I want to keep that going and hopefully in the years to come I can continue that."

think about it a second , we basically gave a chance to a glorified 5 a-side player and he is not forgetting that.for us to show players the trust that they will come good mean the player will give it back to the club which is rare these days. love our wizzard!

He was playing professional football and highly rated in Austraila when we signed up.

Not a glorified 5 a side player at all.

I think it fits him well, at least he is the 'wizard' type. Would have been cringey calling McDonald it but Rogic probably would be called a wizard regardless due his classy, technical style.

To Queen's "A Kind of Magic"...

    Tom's a kind of magic
    a kind of magic

    Tom's a kind of magic
    ROGIC! ROGIC! ROGIC! MAGIC!

That would be pretty simple, and not asking the GB to hit too much of a Freddie Mercury high, lol

I am totally elated. I was just reading Moustache's pre Cup Final report (well done naming all but one on the team sheet btw, I never get teams right). It is a good read but I did not know Tam had signed a new deal and it's for 5 years!!! :party048:

It was starting to worry me that he was down to his last year because so many players take advantage of the Bosman rule especially players as talented as him who would be offered millions to join a club on a free. I thought it was going to be a summer of nerves waiting to hear his decision because he's a player we would find it so difficult to replace.

Reading Notorious's post above it is just fantastic to hear what he had to say about his reason for signing a long term deal. It sounds like he is a pure Celtic man now, so grateful to the fans and with humility saying he hopes he can repay their support and love of him because it's a very special feeling which he can't describe.

He seems quite humble all round actually, almost playing down his ability, saying it's his responsibility to create, score or pass the ball and he will always try his best and how he loves those moments of magic, he never knows when one is going to happen but it's making those memories that makes him love playing for us, as well as winning trophies. Thing is, he's scored so many memorable goals it's more a case of not knowing when he won't create something special.

I am really overjoyed about this. It's a very positive sign we can keep top class talent because we treat players well and give them every opportunity to prove themselves and win trophies. He could easily have went to the EPL. But as he says, our fans are something special he can't even describe the feeling and we have a world class manager who is also a brilliant coach who every player will learn so much from if they put in the effort they'll be rewarded with better ability and understanding of the game. He sounds very dedicated, talking about training as hard as possible and playing as well as possible.

I could ramble on for ages I'm totally buzzing about this news. That's him a fully fledged Celtic player now.

Thank you and welcome to Paradise Tam :ynwacelti

    A @Swervedancer sighting! Been a long time mate. :50:

Read back through this thread, and think just about everyone was feeling the same as you've commented above.

Hi Taz!!! I thought everyone knew I was Spangledstar? I lost my Google Authenticator for my Swerve account so admin kindly deleted that account (cause you're not supposed to have two which I didn't realise but I couldn't log in to delete the other account lol) but once it was deleted the name became available again.

I got hacked big time, computers and phones. That is why I was away for a while.

    You still doing BOTB?

It's good to hear from you. I'm sure I'll send you another manuscript one of these weekends :56:

Aye I should read this thread, I was just buzzing so much I went straight to the last page to express my love of this player :36: As you said I'm sure everyone feels the same. It's like a new signing, I honestly thought he was off.

Good stuff mate, and no, didnt know that was you, lol.

Oh, and yes, there is a song competition just about to start in the next day or so if you are interested. I tried to msg you earlier, but it it couldnt msg you? :/:)

Yeah, the news of Rogic signing was a suprise but an awesome one. Hopefully he has a great World Cup for the Socceroos, but more importantly gets back to Paradise, fit and ready to roll when the new season gets underway.

I think I'll sit this one out but would love to join the next one. Just got a lot going on at the moment and I find it easy to get immersed in music during a BOTB. I think I ended up knowing the name of every Public Enemy song and loved listening to them but haven't for ages. Kinda overdosed.

I don't know why I can't be messaged, it could be something to do with the name change. I'll ask Admin.

*, is Tam going to be unavailable for our CL qualifiers or does the WC finish before the 2nd round? I'm sticking my neck out and saying I don't think we'll need him for the first round.

I don't have much interest in the WC, I don't even know when it starts and finishes jeez oh. The high of supporting Celtic especially in this Rodgers era makes the WC look like the Championship.

Love that footage of him scoring then running into the fans to celebrate.

Kinda expresses what he said was difficult to put into words.
