It was all going so well til he turned into Sepp Blatter at the end, 'Don't mix politics and football'

We absolutely will at this football club

Sending him and his wife messages saying "Zionist *" is the way to do it?

Every right to reply in response to that. * the * messaging him and her.

Should of posted that at the start rather than entering a *-for-tat.

Shouldn't be on social media, as a role model for the club, if you cant handle the public being the public. Don't agree with the personal messages, but he can't be biting like that.

What part of 'it was all going so well' do you not understand?

His statement was bang on the money right up until his 'don't mix politics and football' *. No time for the teenage keyboard warrior's sitting abusing the guy and his wife on their social media accounts but his 'don't mix politics and football' line couldn't be more unsuited to a football club than Celtic

I don’t think it’s because he was born there, it’s that he’s made it clear that he actively supports the regime.

Look, Celtic fans turned on Di Canio when he made it clear he had * sympathies, I don’t really see the difference here.

The abuse he geta is * moronic, bcauaw it’s clearly * idiots who know * all doing it but just bcauaw you’re a footballer doesn’t mean it should be ignored if you actively support something despicable.

The people messaging him are just * idiots but.

Agree. He actively posted support on his social media in his early days at the club. Not a victim for simply being born there IMO

There was another incident where he tagged Stokes under a pro IDF post online too

He was clearly just goading him a bit with the salary comment, get him frothing at the mouth and impotently raging at this keyboard. Fair play to him. That's how you respond to trolls.

As a player though, we just don't really need him any more.

Just gained a ton of respect for him tbh. The fact he gets the abuse he gets from some of our fans goes against what the club is meant to stand for. Glad he said what he said.

Same, don't rate the guy but glad he's stood up and spoken out against this pish. Certainly think more of him for it.

The 'goes against what the club is meant to stand for' thing is something that's being debated today. Twitter is awash with interesting arguments about the whole thing.

    Thoughts on this for example?

Our club was born out of politics and oppression

A club born out of oppresiob sgould ‘t show support for oppressive regimes.

That goes against everything we are for me.

Ok, but the main point is that's YOUR opinion. The fact you think that or have that opinion doesn't matter. Bitton isn't walking out of the tunnel with an Israeli flag saying * Palestine.

He's literally saying, keep politics and football seperate. I love that, especially at a club like Celtic. Whether you agree with Bitton's worldview or not, the point is he's being cast out and abused by support of this club which in itself stands against that.

This. It’s not where he was born, it’s his pro IDF stance because he has served with them. If we are getting fined for political stuff with certain fans moaning about it, then he can keep his views private whilst people are being massacred by his pals.

That's just a convenient way of blurring the lines a bit in my opinion. Just gets very messy, and would prefer our support to stay away from it as much as possible.

Is he a good player, who loves the club, engages with fans, and gives his all? Good enough for me.

It's not like we're signing *'s to play for us ffs. Not everyone agrees with this players beliefs in particular but I don't agree with everyone's beliefs on this chat! Doesn't mean I'm gonna berate them for that.

"Don't mix politics and football." Has this guy been walking round with his eyes closed and ear defenders on for the past however many years he's been here? Celtic by its very nature is political, as is all football really.

Good luck with that, we as a club are steeped in politics as has been shown. But no let’s leave that at the door for poor Nir eh. No politics in football unless it suits certain * it should say.

TBH feel for him a bit,
the guy stood around for almost an hour last year in Austria Pre Season with fans after the game, talking about normal stuff, had a bit of a kick about, took photos..we hounded him about if Paddy was staying, asked us questions back...seemed a really really sound guy who likes the fans
