Would anyone care to dispute that next season we would be chasing 9 in a row if Martin O'Neill ( I still worship him!) had swallowed his pride and accepted that Rab Douglas was his (o'Neill's) big mistake!

Yeah I was gonna post this the other day.

So no, I would not care to dispute it.

    I would dispute it.

Rab Douglas was not the single reason why we lost in 2003 and 2005.

    and more importantly......

WE HAVEN'T WON IT THIS YEAR YET!!!!

It wasn't JUST down to Rab that we lost , obviosuly he didn't always help matters though.

Rab was the mistake for many things.

However to lose the league by 1 point and GD respectively is extremely unlucky.

Rab didn't help but he wasn't the sole reason, it's not like he threw the ball in the net at Fir Park in 2005, it's all if and buts anyway.

Lets just go out and do three in a row on Thurs and see where we go.

There's a saying that no one man is ever bigger than Celtic, so let's not say that one man was our downfall.

Rab made some of the most stunning saves! eg Barry Robson free kick against Dundee Utd, but (* love him) he was an utter shambles against the huns! )O'Neill, despite his wonderful media exterior ,was ruthless. Numerous players eg Petta Healy etc were dismissed! But not Rab!!!

Off-topic but I heard Petta was dismissed because he got caught doing drugs and O'Neil refused to play him after that.....
I heard it from my mate who's son was in the youth setup at Celtic a the time....

MON's lost 2 of his last 3 year because the team was not very good and ageing. We had lost Mjallby, Lambo, Lubo after Seville then henke, in other words most of the quality (none of whom he signed BTW). Valgaeran had done a magic and mysteriously become mince after begin vert good. Guys like Thommo were past their best. Rab was only one factor. He was a constant through good and bad so it wasnt down to him when fortunes failed.

The team that lost after Seville (days after Seville) was a very good team.

I think they were both very decent teams who just got unlucky on the last day of both seasons

The Seville team lost one of the two referred to above. That was a good team.

I also think both 03 and 05 sides were better teams than the class of 08.

03 yes, don't know about 05 though. I'd have to study both squads.

true:50: but team quality slowly declined every year after MON's first couple of seasons. We lost a crucial player or two every season. First was Lubo at end of year 2 then I think it was Mjallby and Lambo at end of year 3 then Henke at the end of year 4. Cant remember all of it but we had the best group of players at the end of MON season 2.
