    Here the whole time
The difference is though, toure had just arrived and was probably brought in with a view to steadying the defence short term in the first place. This worked out well.

compper came in after we tried and failed to strengthen the position in the summer, also coming in before the window had even opened, suggests to me he had been scouted/ looked at between the windows to solve, what was at the time, a pressing defensive issue.

Now, given that he had hardly played for his previous club in that time how can he have been properly scouted. That, to me, is poor recruitment.

If he does play a big part in securing European group football then 'hands up'. I think most of us can agree that is looking highly unlikely.

I really don't see the relevance to the debate here, Toure made around 20 odd appearances for us, he made the squad/bench, Compper has played 1 single game and the disappeared, not even on the bench or in the squad.

I don't know if other factors are involved, they may well be, but there's one thing we can be certain of, the guy has done * all in the last 5 months, whatever way you want to look at it his signing has been a disaster, 1 game against Morton and an appearance at the awards ceremony, if that's value for money i'm Pat Butcher. :67:

The relevance is they are both experienced centre halves that contribute more than what you see on the park.

One has been here for a few months with no preseason, we’ll see what happens over the next 6 months and then can make a judgement on his signing.

He’d only played 3 games for Leipzig this season before coming here too.

Maybe he’s just really really unfit.

He's had injury problems his entire career. At 33 he has played something like 260 career games. That's not a lot.

This is quite a mystery by Brendan. I understand he can be very ruthless as he displayed by subbing De Vries at half time after a 400 yard shot went through his holographic arms and as far as I remember Toure made two mistakes in a game before he was axed, Efe didn't get past pre season yet Boyata is more bulletproof than Fiddy Cent.

It's true he has had some good games but he almost freaks fans out as much as Efe now. Great at heading balls clear but has almost no sense of the speed of opposition pressing and plays forecast passes into midfield.

I don't remember Jozo or Erik being that poor but I always have to clarify I have complete faith in Brendan who might complete two consecutive trebles in his first two seasons on Saturday.

I just find this confusing and I am convinced we need to replace Boyata with a higher level of defender in the summer if we are to progress to the UCL again. He's becoming a target because the opposition know he's vulnerable and that creates exponential pressure and mistakes just like happened to Efe.

    There's something going on here.

I love Brendan and have total appreciation of what he's achieving and how lucky we are to have him as our manager. But a Liverpool fan at my work keeps telling me to look at his signing record the season after he had that one good season with Liverpool.....and yes....its very very poor. Where the * is this guy? Whats he doing? Why has he no even been on the bench for a view to bringing him on for at least some game time? There is something going on like

Tierney has played half that amount in his first three seasons alone.

The Prof.....each of your points are very valid so lets cut to the chase as you don't seem to be getting much answers.

Gaffer has been WRONGLY advised on this signing as player is fit, declared himself fit and requires little if any medical attention last few months. Quite simply - not showing up as well as others during week, we could debate its a little less attitude or fact that as it stands he simply looks out his depth and other players merit start in defence before him.
