Behan wrote this poem 'Red Envoy' when he was just 16 https://comeheretome.com/2015/01/13/i-see-this-old-bad-order-die-brendan-behan-at-sixteen/

he wrote 'Laughing Boy' when he was 13 !

to me he is the greatest writer of all time, 'Borstal Boy' is a book everyone should own, a real masterpiece (avoid the film like the plague, it bears the same title and that's about it, it 'stars' the awful Danny Dyer which itself tells you it's a bad thing)

Also 'The Quare Fellow' again is a masterpiece.

Behan died decades before I was born but I wish the great man was around today.

    A classic response

    The Captains and The Kings

According to Radio 4's " The Unbelievable Truth " , Brendan Behan was an alcoholic at the tender age of 8 years old . That fact was mentioned on the show that aired on Monday 7th May .

A biographer, Ulick O'Connor, recounts that one day, at age eight, Brendan was returning home with his granny and a crony from a drinking session. A passer-by remarked, "Oh, my! Isn't it terrible ma'am to see such a beautiful child deformed?" "How dare you," said his granny. "He's not deformed, he's just drunk!

Similar literary genius in youth was (by Teacher account) held of the laughing boy himself Michael Collins.

Shane of the teeth MacGowan also , who won a scholarship for his essays to the Westminster school, which he was expelled from.
The Dunes is a work very reminiscent of Behans tunes.
