Totally agree that it has to be right for the club and I’m 100% certain that Rodgers did sign his extension in good faith - I’m not for a second saying otherwise. All I mean is that if a day comes where Rodgers isn’t fully committed or his head is turned then it would be detrimental not to let him go. In that situation, a heavy compensation package and totally committed manager would be what’s right for the club.

Again though, I have no doubt (as I’m sure Desmond doesn’t) that Rodgers is fully committed to the cause here and will be the man to lead us to the ten.

So, within an hour of Wenger's announcement Jim Whi.......Sky have Brendan down as bookies favourite to succeed him? How does that work? What bookies? All the bookies? I agree with one of the previous comments that most Arsenal fans would want a manager from a bigger league seeing as most of them see the SPL as a diddy league regardless of how good the boss is or his record at Liverpool.

I think Rodgers would certainly be interested as managed properly Arsenal has the potential to be among the worlds best clubs. But I also think Arsenal's profile is not a Northern Irish manager based in Scotland. The likes of Lennon and McLeish achieved a lot in Scotland but were largely ignored by EPL clubs and while Rodgers carries a stronger CV from his liverpool time, I cant see it being strong enough to warrant interest from Arsenal if their ambition is to compete at the highest level.

And all said and done - if/when Rodgers leaves, I hope we don't suddenly turn in to cheap * again. Even if we don't overly invest in the squad, we know for a fact now, that a highly paid and experienced manager such as Rodgers is the way to go. £2.5mill a year he is apparently on, where as the likes of Deila and lennon were around the 800k-1m mark. Shows you the difference in quality. So I would expect us to go out and still pay a manager a fair wage for a fare job.

Patrick Viera will be higher than Rodgers on most Arsenal fans lists and I think that just about sums up the nutjobs down there.

Let me say straight off I don't want BR to go . Would he take the job if offered? Id say yes as there aren't that many jobs at the level where he could get offered. But lets say he goes. Hes done brilliantly , but its the European stage where we should be improving, and I'm not 100% convinced where we are going to be in 1 year from now. Not our fault entirely, as its all down to the luck of the draw who we are up against to qualify ( which is a disgrace) but other than two maybe 3 solid performances in the European campaign this year, have we progressed on the one stage we ultimately will be judged upon?

I would say we have improved, in the first season we qualified for the group stages which is good considering the previous season the team came bottom of the Europa league group. This season we qualified playing matches with midfielders up front and in defence we got a very very difficult draw, which included the Belgian and German champions plus this season's French champions and Celtic came 3rd to play in the Europa league which again gave them a tough draw.
There is only so much Rodgers can do, in the last 5 years the monetary gulf has grown so large that Celtic cannot compete in Europe. Next season I am hoping he can get a run in the Europa league which with an improved defence I think we can do. Ajer and Hendry will be a defensive force but not until 2019-20 season, so interim players have to come in to get rid of Boyata, Lustig and Simunovic.

Brendans an attacker loves putting 4s and 5s past teams in the big games especially ..hes not gonna change and perfect fit for our club..needs to spend on defense for europe though.

Brendan is not leaving, I reckon that Desmond came out and met the rumour head on to let Brendan know we respect his position and what he's done for our club and not to push him towards this move.
    Like a double bluff.

The moment I heard the news I was a little worried, but now hearing guys like Allegri are leaving Juve at the end of the season as well is very convenient.

I feel like Rodgers will be a plan z for Arsenal and they will focus their attention to Allegri, Unai, Conte even long before they go for rodgers

As ive previously stated , BR is going nowhere

having already been previously burnt by the cut throat bullshit down there and having to be not only answerable to transfer committee but also having to shoehorn their players into his tactics... the scouse masses turned on him. Despite bringing them within a inch of the only title theyre likely to see for some time.

    Now lets look at Arsenal

Quite rankly the biggest rip off for a an base in world football. Despite having the worlds most expensive season ticket the boards and Kroenke only motivation is money. The dont give a fiddlers * about football or the fans and have been outspent for years

The notion that BR will leave a club where he has total control and is adored to take a post down south where he will have to watch Chelsea, Man City, Utd and quite possibly liverpool and spurs outspend him on a yearly basis as Wenger looks down from his seat on the board is laughable.

Whoever arsenal appoint will be sacked within a season if CL football is not achieved

BR knows better than to take such a risk

Natural for fans to prefer a club legend over the former manager of a rival side though.

I felt the same about Neil Lennon. :fear:

I don't see him going either but he surely can't be happy at the level of investment so far. If the board back him in the summer he wont go anywhere.

I'm quietly confident Rodgers is more than happy to stay at Celtic for the 4 years he's promised.

But lets be honest, if he were to be offered the Arsenal job it would be a VERY tempting offer to say the least.

If he were to go I'd be absolutely gutted, but wouldn't hold any grudges against him in the slightest...

I think I was the same at the time but there would be a sense of unfinished business (in Europe anyway) if Rodgers was to leave, there wasn’t really that when Lenny left.

The amount of English fans talking * about Rodgers is kind of making me want him to take it and do well.

    Some * talk me down.

Some of them want Conte though. I think Arsenal fans are just deluded.

Its the timing though, not as if Rodgers has stayed silent or said he wants to go, he came out and said he’s loving life at Celtic and nowhere near finished.
