Drake probably could have gone in that group that’s criticised but have good tunes. He’s massive at the moment and I love some songs like Back to Back, The Motto and Know Yourself. He can definitely * off at times!

Ive got alot of time for rappers like Kendrick who are definately talented lyricists, performers and such, J cole is kind of in the same bracket for me alot of thier music has substance, i like Joyner Lucas aswell for that reason and Joey Badass is one the most naturally gifted mc's in my opinion, Drake is RnB i wouldnt ever class him as an mc even though hes talented.
Its a good thing and it makes it harder to define rap by a generation as theirs so much variety about.
One thing ive noticed about the music ive listened to growing up, is its not very uplifting, rappers talking about guns and drugs all the time is dangerous if your young and not necessarily into it for that reason.

I do blame them for being into rappers like that. There’s not many rappers in that genre but the messages they give out and culture they are creating is toxic.

I can respect your preferences though as someone who grew up with certain rappers and connected with it. That means something to you. But you still recognise current talent when you see it. Many will ignore it purely because it’s current and they are so set in their ways.

I dont like Logic and J.Cole, something about them I just find cringey especially Logic. But im going to listen to this new J.Cole album to see if I like any of it.

Young Thug does get put in with all the * but I actually find him quite decent, there is meaning to most of his lyrics although they don't really mean anything but at least you can read into them a bit(similar to Lil Wayne) compared to Migos, 21 Savage, Gucci Mane and others who don't really have anything in their lyrics.

I agree with that, the music alot of us listened to was toxic, i hate to say it but there was alot of money behind music thats sets a bad influence, as there is today and alot of kids will think its cool to copy them and head down the wrong path.
I think alot of people will be set in thier ways as far as music is concerned but its good there is alot of rappers with substance who can uplift the young people aswell.

I dont really find that group of rappers interesting at all, Young thug i was well into and is cool as * apart from him they all say the same stuff. Lil Wayne took alot of the criticism for the way rap was going downhill, it was undeserved in my opinion as everyone was at it and hes alot more creative then alot of rappers.

Aye, I mind I used to hate Lil Wayne when I was younger, 10 year ago or whatever as I considered him nonsense but over time and especially with all the new rappers now they actually make him seem much better the way in most of his lyrics he ties things in to other things so you can listen to them numerous times and pick up new links in the songs and whatever and a lot of them are catchy.

Out all the newer guys of the last 5-10 year or that I like Young Thug, Kodak Black and Chief Keef although 90% of their songs are * and I like Post Malone and quite a lot of his songs. I think Future is ok. I dont like Drake, Logic or J.Cole(not so much) - I never listen to them and I dont even really like Kendrick - I think hes good and I like some of his songs but I never listen to him either. Migos I hate I didnt mind them much before but they've been around too long now and never changed anything about themselves, theyre far too repetitive and that Quavos voice goes right through me now with how many songs he's on especially the autotuned ones. ASAP Rocky I think is ok but I only like a handful of his songs, same with Chance and Childish Gambino. Travis Scott I dont really like either.

Out even newer guys I actually dont mind Lil Pump and 6ix9ine their songs are crap but they are catchy like rap versions of the Vengaboys or Aqua or something in their own way :56: I think Trippie Redd is quite good but I dont really like any of his songs but will probably listen to an album from him, same with NBA YoungBoy - I quite liked the sound of him on a couple of songs but didnt like the songs but could see him releasing better stuff in future. Lil Yachty I think is the worst and absolutley dreadful. 21 Savage is ok but I never listen to him. XXXTentacion I can see his point in how hes quite different to other people but I dont like any of his songs and find them cringey as well. Lil Uzi Vert I can see why people like him as well but hes not for me.

Dont think ive ever listened to Joey Badass although ive heard of him and Joyner Lucas I have heard and liked but I think its only remixes ive heard him on never any of his own songs.

Forgot Lil Peep, wouldnt class him as a rapper but I did listen to him after I heard of him dying and liked a lot of his stuff. Think he could have gone on to make really good music but most of his songs were a bit limited with not much verses or short songs but some are still decent.

    J. Cole’s new album is pretty good. Listened through and going to listen again.

The last song “1985” is actually kind of what we are talking about, I love it. He’s rapping as if he’s talking to one of these current guys with tattoos all over their face. The beat is simple and the flow is great. Worth a listen.

I heard youngboy recently, hes got potential, ill always listen to future if hes got a new tune out, certain artists keep me up to date with whats current but im not as aware of whats and relevent at the moment as you guys.
Joey Badass for me has a nice flow, good tunes and lyrics which i like, hes like the type of young rapper from back in the day. Joyner Lucas always makes you think about a controversial subject maybe inpactful like Tupac was.

I’ve been listening to Illmatic non-stop for the last week or so. It’s astounding.

    J. Cole is fantastic - up there with Ab Soul, Childish Gambino and Kendrick Lamar as one of my favourite contemporary rappers.

No Role Modelz might have the greatest sample ever (George Bush: ‘Fool Me Once’).
