I'm sick of getting battered in these 'glamour ties', a wee easy unglamorous draw would suit me nicely.

Brendan Rodgers has insisted that any speculation around his future will not distract him from his focus at Celtic.

The Parkhead manager was linked with a move to Arsenal this week as Arsene Wenger’s situation comes under further scrutiny following the ugly results this week. And while Rodgers was not entirely taken aback by being linked with the post, he has maintained that he is in no rush to vacate his own role with Celtic.

“Arsenal is a great club with a great manager,” said Rodgers. “People will look at it and see that I went to Liverpool, they were struggling for five seasons for Champions League football and I was able to get them back.

“And when I came to Celtic, they hadn’t been in the Champions League for three seasons and I got them back. So maybe people are thinking – okay, Arsenal have been out of the Champions League and is that maybe the equation for someone like myself.

“For me, my focus and my life is here. I love my professional life, the challenges of managing, the expectations, the scrutiny that comes with Celtic.

“Like I say, I’m living the dream.

“But the other stuff you can’t control, so I can’t worry about it. I’m not going to be here forever, but I’m living in a dream.

“And dreams always come to an end at some point, that’s for sure. But I am always relaxed about speculation and what not.

“My focus is only on Celtic. Arsenal is a great club, they have a great manager and they are going through a tough time of course.”

And Rodgers has insisted that he has no issue with either being the subject of speculation – or others being linked with his own role should there ever come a time that he is under pressure at Celtic.

“It’s unfortunately the game now but it will always be the case at big clubs, especially if your results just turn the other way,” said the Celtic manager.

“What you have to be prepared for when you manage the big clubs is there is maybe going to be between five and ten people linked with your job, you know that. It doesn’t happen in too many other industries.

“But we live a privileged life, we get to manage and work with great players and great people.

“Like I say, with the big clubs comes big scrutiny and probably when my results drop off here a bit I’m sure there will be names linked but you have to accept that as part of the job.

“Arsene will know that, he’s got great experience, he’s a really good man. He’s done wonders for British football and it’s just unfortunate at this period and for a little period now the focus has really been on him but that’s new football I’m afraid.”

And Rodgers voiced his own disappointment that a manager who had such an impact on British football and enjoyed such success with Arsenal has found himself in his current predicament.

“The criticism Arsene takes unfortunately is now the modern game, modern football,” said Rodgers. “It’s unfortunate because he has done so much for the British game.

“He came in 20 odd years ago and revolutionised the game.

“And it’s sometimes disappointing and sad for another manager to see someone of that esteem and quality go through that.

“But like I say it’s different names every day really. There is always going to be speculation around it.

“If they are going to pick out names for the job then of course they are going to suggest candidates for it.”

BR: "It was a very tricky tie for us, especially with the week we’ve had. I think our lack of training time showed in the first half."

BR: "We weren’t up to our standard really in terms of our intensity, pressing and creativity but we also have to give credit to Greenock Morton because they showed good organisation, had some good players in their team an I thought they played really well."

BR: "I wanted to change it at half-time for the second half. I think Odsonne made a huge difference to the game. I changed the shape of the team and we had much better control and intensity in the second half.

BR: "I’m really pleased to get into the semi-final again this year. I’m pleased with the second half and not so happy with the first half."

BR: "I thought Odsonne was very, very good. He’s a young player I rate very highly. He can play in a number of positions and his link up and hold up play was very good. I felt Odsonne and Dembele occupied the back four very well."

BR: "I think you can see he [Dembele] has that hunger back to score. In the second half, like the rest of the team, he was much better."

BR: "It was a good header, he [Dembele] has the composure and his link up play was much better. It was unfortunate the ball wouldn’t sit for him in the second half to get his hat-trick."

BR: "I have in my mind the team for next week but we’ll do some work. This week was really difficult. Hopefully this coming week we’ll get some good work in."

For me the tactics just aren't working consistently enough, been a problem for months and months.

We have a left side that consists of Kieran Tierney and a right side that consists of James Forrest. Our left winger and the number 10 operate in the same areas, absolutely no support on the right side from our right back.

Stifle our left back and our right winger and we seem to run out of ideas. CM's offering little in forward areas, Ntcham trying and is a good player but he doesn't have the penetration of an Armstrong or a Petrov.

i know this might be looking into it too much but i find these comments worrying

it was 3 years without champions league before him at liverpool(including his first season which was out of his control ofcourse), they didn't qualify the next season cause they finished 7th under him. Very misleading and incorrect statement.

Then right after it he is again incorrect as we had went 2 seasons not 3 without champions league before him

it reads to me like he's exaggerating the truth to talk himself up for the arsenal job and he seems to think hes being cryptic about it, not good

    Spot on.

Sinclair has been offering nothing out wide, and even when he was scoring he was always more central. Tierney has had to cover that entire side of the pitch all season.

Lustig just offers nothing in an attacking sense from right back and needs replaced.

with rogic firing on all cylinders we become alot more effective at attacking up the middle , he finds space like no one else on the team and can score a worldie. It seems people forget just how effective rogic is at popping up at the right moment with an assist or goal.

I think he sees it as an opportunity to talk himself up a bit. Whether he would be keen or not, the interview means nothing more than that in my opinion.

Either way I cant see Arsenal being interested in Rodgers.

Bit of a worry that Murtz has his number. Maybe time to part ways before next Sunday and get Strachan back. Or Craig Levein, he's doing a good job at Hearts.

Got to agree mate, Maybe Mowbray is a good shout also! Murts has them playing fast-free flowing attractive attacking football and they are a joy to watch (well according to Jim Duffy)

People on here need to stop kidding themselves. If Fudgie gets offered the Arsenal job in the summer he's offski. He's only here filling a gap until he returns to England. He almost had the job last year and was off to London until Wenger surprisingly got a 2 year extension. I feel this year his stock has gone down compared to last year. I will be shocked if Arsenal offer him the job
